The issue with the new "modern" flasher replacements such as the 535 is they use a thermally controlled bimetal contact to power the TS bulbs and a transistor to turn on the dash indicator whereas the original TungSol type has electromechanical relay like contacts for both functions. Almost all of the modern 6v replacement flashers use transistors that are for negative ground cars so dash lights don't work on positive ground cars. There are a few positive ground flashers available if you search for them.

Another poster (stupid me forgot to copy his name for credit so if he reads this please advise) opened his commonly available 535 and replaced the original transistor with one of proper polarity to work on positive ground cars.
