You're right, but I'd rather err on the overkill side and also need some thickness in that piece for the bearing I'm using. Another benefit is to keep the different metal sizes needed to just a few pieces.

Am not saying this is the best or only way. Assuming the possible bleed problem is solved and actually get some numbers that are reasonable, will photograph and provide details and measurements of what was done. If anyone else wants to try one, this will be a starting point and any changes can be made they feel appropriate or more comfortable with.

I'm still not sure about the nearness of shift linkage, but have decided to go with what I have. The Ultra rod looks like it will clear barely but could be bent if needed. The stick maybe a lost cause without having one to look at in detail.
