There were certain Packard blocks that had a lot of chrome in them and could NOT run chrome rings. A local fellow wore out a set of Perfect Circle (fairly sure about the brand) chrome rings in not many miles. When he had rings mic'd they discovered extreme wear. A rep from Perfect Circle came out and examined the block, looked up the motor and serial number and stated that the block had to run cast-iron rings. They were installed and car ran well until he scattered the crank all over the highway. This was in the late fifties.
