Why didn't Continental make an OHV V-8?

They made engines for a number of independents that couldn't make their own...

So why didn't they make a "modern" v-8? Looking back, it was essential from a marketing perspective. Would it have kept anyone alive?

Or did companies like Kaiser have a living will? DNR....
