One way to get correct installation height is to make a gauge block that sits on top of the tappet.

Set all the tappets at maximum clearance. Knock the guide down until you can't slide a feeler gauge between the block and the guide.

That way you get a professional looking job. That's the kind of stuff I used to get yelled for doing because it takes more time to do. But guide height affects the breathing so it has to be right.
