Mine is also 7 so would think that must be about the max. Packard listed none, 4 1/2 and 7 thru 47 and 7 from 48 thru 50. From 51 - 54 it was still 7 for some models but there was a higher cap made available as was detailed in a counselor article.

Unless the thermostat has gotten tired after XX years and someone starts having unexplained overheating, doubt there is anything to be concerned with. Several different thermostats are listed but no indication of which might be bellows and which are the capsule type. Those don't have the issue. Suspect the capsule type might have been phased in starting with the 51's but who knows if an older type might have been installed at some point.

I related the story because it jogged a memory that several have asked about or even installed higher pressure caps. Just wanted to throw something to be aware of out there for anyone contemplating a change & then has unexplained overheating.
