Re: Electric Wiper Motor Conversions

To the best of my knowledge no one makes a 6v motor. Newport Engineeringhttp://www.newportwipers.com/year.php?make_id=20 sells a 12v motor and kit that will fit your application (49 22nd series and 49 23rd series need different drives) but it will also need a 6 to 12v inverter to make it work. While they still show the inverter on the new products page it no longer appears on their accessories or options page for ordering. You will have to verify it is still available. You need theirs or one like it because it takes a special inverter unit to handle motor current and surges. The typical inverter easily available at most parts stores for running a stereo usually doesn't last long when powering a motor.

You might also consider getting your vacuum unit rebuilt. Ficken Wiper servicehttp://www.wiperman.com will rebuild yours to as good as new condition for about one third to one half the price a conversion kit and inverter would cost. If you have decent vacuum and a functional booster section on fuel pump you might be surprised at how well they operate.

One other problem with a conversion is the switch assy. If your switch in the top of dash then not too big an issue but I believe your car has the knob on side of steering column that operates a bowden cable to control the motor valve. Any conversion will have an electric switch and that switch and wiring will be a tough fit inside the location on steering column. You will have to figure out some place and means of mounting the new switch.
