Unless some modifications were made, I highly doubt it has a 356 in there. I don't believe that block is drilled for the motor mounts that the 51-54 motor/chassis use. Like other said, it is probably a 359. That a look at the motor number, that will put the issue to rest.

As others said, the 359 has a bigger bore than the 288/327 motor.
