Is there a difference between the US and German pronounciations of Munich ?????

An argument ensued a number of years ago about a Germany made motorcycle named Clymer Munch Mammoth (NOTE the "i" missing between "n" and "c" in Munch).

Is it Munch or Munich???? Munch (no "i")is how it was spelled on the tank badges of the m/c.

Or maybe there is supposed to be an umlaut somewhere?????
