Look more closely, the "hole" you see at the bottom of the fronts is actually a recessed hex for an Allen wrench. The caps are cast steel with a spun brass or stainless cover.

If the rear bumper ends are larger but not fluid-filled, they are from a Super Eight. Only the Twelve really has a sophisticated stabilizer (with hydraulic fluid and suspended weights), Eight and Super Eight bumper ends are essentially just decorative.

Some '34 Eights have single piece bumpers; others like mine have 2-piece bumpers with a lap joint under the center decorative plate. If you have the 2-piece units, removal is far easier if you diassemble the center first. Installation is easiest doing the center last. I'll be curious to hear if yours are one or two piece units.
