Re: Did Packard ever consider front-wheel drive ?

I had the pleasure of viewing the car when it was displayed at Pebble Beach a decade or so ago. Packard disguised the car so that there was nothing to identify it as a Packard. There were problems with the front wheel drive system and Packard decided to abandon this approach and go with a more conventional rear wheel drive. The V-12 engine was introduced for the 1932 model year and carried the name of its predecessor twelve cylinder car - Twin Six. Here are two photos of the prototype.
