Brians51: The forum times out if you have a lengthy post so that's probably why you lost it--if you plan a lengthy post, do it in Word or something and copy/paste or just get in the habit of doing a copy before you hit submit and if it gets lost, just log in again and paste.

The ultra breather has a mesh material inside. That or the entire breather has to be removed before you can add fluid there. The normal Packard owner took his car to the dealer for service so dipstick being underneath was no big deal. What the book means is start the engine, let it run to make sure the converter is filled, then stop engine and check within one minute or the converter will drain down again and the reading will be false (indicate more full than actually is)

Carlmadsen. I believe the access they are referring to is the one over the breather--although I think the 50 might have had one over the dipstick. To drain the converter, there are 2 plugs on the side or front of the converter. Loosen one for a vent, then turn 180 degrees and remove the other to drain. To fill converter, believe it is add 7 qts to trans, start engine to let it pump into converter, then add the remaining 3-4 while engine running and check level & top off as necessary
