Re: Oil change and Filter

For the moment I believe you might be out of luck on the oil filter; the original was a Purolator L-8 full-flow type in use since 1935 on the senior engines and both of the folks who manufactured replacement filters (altered for modern internal filter elements, though each with a different approach) have apparently closed down their operations. One was Burr Ripley who passed away some years ago and to my knowledge no one picked up his tooling, and the other was R&A Engineering which no longer responds to phone calls or emails. 1939 was the last year to use the L-8 full flow filter and then again, only on the senior engines.

The CCCA may still offer a "do it yourself" kit to modify an original L-8 by cutting it open, silver soldering in a set of threaded metal O rings, etc.

As for oil, it would be helpful to know a bit about the engine's condition (fresh rebuild, old and tired, etc.) and the kind of driving and temperatures you'll be encountering with the car as these factors can influence a recommendation for oil type.
