Electromatic clutch and overdrive

I have a 1950 custome with overdrive and elctromatic clutch.
I have not been able to get the overdrive to work period.
The electromatic clutch operates only if the overdrive is on even if the electrmatic clutch is off?
I did a test light for the electromatic clutch and it comes on when I turn it on and off when I turn it off but it operates when the overdirve is on and the test light is off? Im lost. Any one got anything?
