I think the exhaust is supposed to be natural (Cast Gray). But flat black or stovepipe black is acceptable. I painted both manifolds on my motor with Hi-Temp Cast Gray from Bill Hircsh.

So they have that natural finish, but wont rust right back up.

I my opinion, I think it looks odd then one of the manifolds is painted and the other one is not.
