I suppose a very old tailor could help you or possibly a vintage clothing store. There was some very sturdy material made prewar and I bet there are still a few whistles hanging about.

The idea of appropriate dress is a good one. You don't need to go to the trouble most of the time but for special occasions why not?

Incidentally the pic you chose is of the cast of Bonnie and Clyde and was taken in 1967. This is a small peeve of mine, the idea that all 30s American cars belonged to gangsters and should be accessorized with tommy guns, bullet holes and bootleg whiskey bottles. In the same way that all Rolls Royces were custom built for the Royal Family and all MGs were raced at LeMans. I don't think.
