Another case, cited occasionally in the Packard lore, was the murder of famous architect Stanford White in NYC by Harry K. Thaw, and Thaw's subsequent escape from the Matteawan Prison for the Criminally Insane in a Packard, the authorities in lesser vehicles unable to catch up with him.

Here's a short quote from the AQ special issue on Packard from 1962: "Harry K. Thaw, the millionaire slayer of Stanford White, excaped in a Packard six from the Matteawan, NY, State Asylum for the Criminal Insane. In dashing to Connecticut and freedom from extradition, the machine attained a speed of 80 mph - fast for 1913. The Packard Magazine reproduced newspaper accounts of Thaw's feat with the comment: When high speed is absolutely imperative, ask the man who owns one."http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_Kendall_Thaw
