Packard had a special tool to remove the switch bezels on the dash for 55 and 56.

You'll notice the dash bezels have a hex indentation around the switch shaft, which is used to unscrew the bezels from the shaft. So to remove them without damage, you essentially need an Allen key with a hole drilled in the center. This tool does that.
