First, make sure you have a copy of the service manual. It's here for download:packardinfo.com/xoops/html/modules/archive/content.php?op=&catID=10&ContentID=4
Reference also the literature archive at left. If you think you have head gasket problems, why not buy a new head gasket and check out the lifters at the same time? Though I don't doubt the previous advice that they might clear up on their own, I think it's pretty obvious that if the head is coming off anyway, then to clean and leakdown test them would be the best course of action.

Thanks for the tip about Rubber the right way. I ordered some more fuzzies and window channels just like in your Panama. Some bitumen sound deadening is also in the mail. I hope to get the doors feeling solid and rattle free.
Cleaning and lubing the lock mechanism has helped, and I put a plastic disk, and a rubber washer behind the metal washer to quiet up the lock mechanism. I'll have to make sure everyting still works when I put the door panel back on. The bent threaded rod in my last pic actually looks OEM. The washers are a little hokey, but they seem to work. I'll post a pic later of my washer/spacer setup that feels pretty good.

Speculation, but not developing leaks after a while due to gasket deterioration? The nitrile gasket is a higher part number, so running change?

Re: Reproduction Data Plates

Thanks. Here is the situation. A young car enthusiast whom I met on Facebook is rebuilding a 1939 Six Club Coupe. I have been trying to help him source parts he needs to complete the project. The car was partially restored and was already painted when he recently purchased it. It still needs a lot of mechanical work, including a full engine rebuild. The original data plate was missing when he acquired the car. Apparently, the painter removed it prior to painting the car and then lost it or something like that. He does have an old registration paper from 2004 which shows the correct ID number. I used our Packard Decoder to confirm the model number using the ID number on the old registration form. (1285-1939 Six Club Coupe).
Question: What do you recommend he do in order to legally register the car?

Yes, that should always be where it disengages, as the kickdown region of the throttle valve is directly past the regulated pressure region, which should correlate with full throttle plate opening in the carb. However, if you have to mash the gas pedal into the carpet or against excessive spring pressure to even reach that point, then it will be annoying to get it to kick down. So as we see, when adjustments are made to reverse 71 years of aging and fiddling, the suggestion that Ross and I made to basically just tap the gas to get it to kick down, should be easy to do when driving. That is to say, how people were driving these cars when they were new. Good to hear the positive results from both of you.

Seat Covers?
|
||||

I have a completely original Packard 200, 1951 model and am looking for seat covers to protect the original fabric. Does anyone have original seat covers for sale or know where to buy reproductions if anyone is even making them? I’m trying to stay period correct if I can! However, I’ve got to put some in regardless so any help is appreciated!!! I would also completely cover the seats in plastic if I can find someone who can do this work? Thank you!

True, but any thoughts on why that would even be necessary to offer two types?
