Thanks for the replies to my stuck valve problem. Great suggestions and now have my weekend planned. Will work down the list after first getting some Marvel.

Coolant, Just the standard green stuff.

Packard originally called for 30wt oil. My motor in the '54 has some blow-by, so I run 15W40 diesel oil (Shell Rotella), which also is supposed to have higher zinc content vs regular motor oil. Not that that is a huge concern on our low valve spring pressure motors. Otherwise, a 10W30 or 10W40 would be fine.

Okay...I'm clear on the differential and transmission.

For the engine, I've seen 10W30, 10W40, and 15W40 recommended.

I live in the Kansas City area...it does get hot here. It also gets cold here. I do hope to drive the car year round when the weather is nice (no rain, snow etc..). So, the car is likely to be driven in temps from the 30s to the 90s.

I really don't know much about the different oil weights...I'm learning.

What would recommend?

Okay, I give up. What kinds of issues?

I also found Ross had mentioned it in this post....

As Ross points out in this post, it causes issues with the synchros.

Sadly, I think that is the only size they sell. But you'll now have a lifetime supply!

This thread has been good for me as I'll be changing fluids in the near future.

For the 90w GL1 from NAPA, did you have to buy the gallon size? That's all I'm seeing. I'd just rather not buy that much if I only need a quart. Wouldn't be an issue except storage space is tight.

If you're not having fun, maybe it's your own damned fault.

No overdrive. Just a standard transmission.
