Re: Rear Axle Shaft Bearing 12.0295

The bearing might be a Timken or or a Bower, but that doesn't make a difference. The bearing # is 26878 and the race # is 26830. That number should work for any manufacturer.

Rear Axle Shaft Bearing 12.0295

Hello everyone,
I need your help. The rear axle bearing for the 1953 Clipper is part number 12.0295, right? However, I need to know the manufacturer's designation, like TIMKEN, for example. Does anyone know this designation, please? I'm from Europe and I can't wait a month for shipping from the USA now, as the car is up on the lift at the Servis. I can buy the same bearings in Europe and have them by the car within 2 days, but I need the designation. Thank you all.

Peter Packard
Hello Howard, The alternator which I used was an almost direct replacement for the Generator. Same bracket, same drive belt and a bit of shimming to align. I used the output from the original oil filter to feed the alternator vacuum pump lubrication. A simple T piece and reducer to give about an ounce of oil per minute to the alternator vacuum pump. The oil output from the vacuum pump I fed into the top of the oil filler cap. As an aside i discovered that after I installed the Olds pump mod, i was getting some spotting on the garage floor. So I sealed the bottom of the bell housing and used a bit of vacuum from the new system to bring any bell housing oil into a bottle in the engine bay. it works a treat. I was amazed how easily the 4WD diesel alternator went in. some pics attached. The vacuum pump on the alternator drives the vacuum wipers quite well.

Did your alternator combo with vac pump need an external oil supply for the pump and if so, where did you pick it up? One I bought needs an oil supply and was thinking if it ever gets installed, since the car has factory AC and filter is just above the generator location plumbing the filter return thru the pump could possibly work. What info I could find is not very helpful as to amount or pressure needed by the pump.

This is my new favorite tool. Much quicker than regular car skates and a floor jack.

When I'm not working on or using the '37 is stays tucked out of the way due to space constraints. So skates are used. This just makes it much quicker to get on and off.

A coat of wax is a great idea. I still need to replace that middle twisted support.

I won't install this grille till the winter comes as you pretty much have to take the entire front clip off to replace the grille.

The large woiden panels (floor board, etc) would be plywood. I'd recommend marine grade plywood. Other wood pieces would be made from Ash.

You can see some of the floor wood structure on my 37 project blog.

There is a lot of information in the literature Archive on this website.

I would NOT attempt to replace the wooden parts with metal or anything else other than hardwood, or plywood, where used originally.
