Inner fender panels-Help

Can someone tell me what material was used on the bottom of the inner fender panels ?
Was it leather,rubber? Does anyone reproduce them ?
How was it fastened?

BUT out of curiosity, do any of you know whether ANYONE built a V-8 based upon Packard's design?

I've always been amazed that it was only produced for 2 model years when it was built in a state-of-the-art plant and was supposedly very advanced.

Did anyone take advantage of all that engineering prowess?

A screen shot off the owner registry showing differences between yours and a 56 hood-roughly same view. Main difference is in louvers and sculpturing.
Was going to scan originals but there seems to be a lack of front-on shots of 55 Caribbeans in factory literature. All other models well represented in 55 but not top O'line -- mostly side or rear 3/4--but plenty of 56's.
Having said that, am sure now others will point out the gaps in my collection, but thought it interesting in the several pieces I have.

i was wrong.. both windows i need are front door windows..

so, i rebuilt the MC and ran into a

problem.

but i ordered a new part, and it should be here sometime durring the week.

i pulled the drivers side wheel off and removed the brake assembly, drum, and everything down the the spindle. i cleaned every part spotless(i even got the lugnuts shiney!), repacked the berrings, rebuilt the wheel cylinder, and replaced almost every brake part. the brakes, parts, and rubber all looked to be in good shape, but i replaced most everything anyway.

it took me a FULL day of playing with chemicals, scrubbing, twisting and banging to get ONE wheel done. it was a great day!

oh yeah.. i live in the pacific northwest (portland, oregon), so it rained/hailed/snowed on me all day. i am working on my packard outside. (as you can see from the pictures)

**edit**
i believe i've located my "wobble". i think the tire itself is warped/hard/not balanced form old age and causing the car to bob up and down. we'll see later when i replace the tires.

When in doubt compare the model number to the ones on the 1940 Model Info pages. While not all the models have pictures yet, the basic information for each one should be correct.

Dear All,

OK, I must not post when I am tired. I am an idiot, and I apologize. I got all muddled about EP versus non-EP and GL-4 versus GL-5.

It was GL-5 that I meant to talk about. I have some references that state GL-5 rated gear lube, under high, but reasonable, temperatures can corrode 'yellow' metals. It is therefore recommended to use only GL-4 rated lube in ones older cars.

I think that you will find at LeBaron a division of Briggs built most of the Limousine variations for Packard in 1941.

Henney built a 12 passenger Airport Limousine.

Did you get the model number off the data plate? That would be the easiest way to answer your question. The Formal Sedan has a blind rear quarter with a padded roof, the Limo and 7 Passenger Sedan have windows in that area and no padding on the roof. I believe the Limo body was by Henney.

Edit: If you don't have the model number could you post a side view photo of the car?

I think that you will find the RRV8 engine was probably based on the design of the GM V8 engines. Rolls consult GM a lot during the 50's on matters of automotive engineering.

The automatic transmission that RR came out with was nothing more than a GM hydramatic. It is also reported that because the RR V8 wasn't cast iron, that it wasn't as quiet running as the average American V8.

The V12 engines in the current RR are and have been supplied by BMW.
