Overdrive Issue...R11
|
||||
---|---|---|---|---|
Not too shy to talk
|
I'm a little stumped with my overdrive on my 1949 23rd Series Super Eight. When I let off the gas, regardless of speed, it just freewheels and when I apply throttle it just slips back into normal gear.
I have power at the relay. I can trip the solenoid (where I can hear it click). I have NOT taken the solenoid off to bench test. Should that be my next step...or do you think maybe the governor switch? I was hoping that I could find something simple when I started with my multimeter, but no such luck. There is another post on here with a diagram with superimposed instructions and I have been through those.

Automotive literature is full of grandiose inventions and dark premonitions when it comes to illustrating Soviet products. Anyone who had accumulated a profound wealth of knowledge through intensive study of regional newspapers is able to visualize inline V8 engines or Russian cars with six engines, even without taking halocigenic substances. To deal with lindworms, fire-breathing dragons or seven-cylinder cars from the Moscow secret service is daily routine for reporters from The Cairns Post. In 1945, the Austrailian Sunday Telegraph have attempted to take the lead in this genre with the following report on a three-seat ZIS (the image is a Photoshop illusion, the text is real).

So I am about ready to get Blanche in the road.
Finished up the running boards and trim. Got my speedo back from Pat at Bills Speedometer. So I was able to finish up the dash. Looks real nice. Chrome is shining! Started with the new hand throttle from Flackmaster. I had to get the others chromed to match! I have 2 things that I am still working on. 1. Getting my turn signal to work with the LED lights. I went back to the regular bulbs while o research a bit more. Working with Gene at YnZ. All working ok with the standard bulb set up. 2. Gas gauge is not registering. I grounded it yesterday but still not recognizing volume. When I turn the key gauge pegs hard below empty. When I turn it off it returns to empty. I had to adjust the sending unit because it did not fit the tank. I may end up getting a new sending unit as Don did and get the 115. My goal was to get her running in time for my daughter’s graduation and I did it! My mom wants to drive to the the ceremony. Happy Mother’s Day to all the wives out there! Cheers Ben

The autolite part number is IG2671K. If you search ebay several NOS ones will come.

When I started finally working on my 1956 Clipper Custom I discovered it had an aftermarket fuel filter with a built in adjustable regulator and also my 1954 Patrician had a regulator in place of the fuel filter which I kept set at around 2.5 lbs. Both of my blogs show them.

Have you tried taking yours to Napa to match up? I understand that the main difference between condensers was the mounting and the length/type of wire but that the condenser itself was the same.

Hi,
Tried to find the AL-71 in NAPA, but apparently no longer available. The search goes on. Thanks for your help. Gene
