No, don't need a pic of the ID plate, but thanks for the offer.
Do you have interior pics?

Thanks everyone for the info!
Mal, what would be a reasonable price for this ornament? I don't expect to have a '48-'50 Packard (but hope to have a '54 thru '56 ![]()

Packard (?) Hood Ornament ID Help Needed

Hi folks, hope I'm putting this in the correct area. If not, hopefully BigKev/moderators will move it to the correct area.
Received this hood ornament in with some Studebaker parts. The guy I got these parts from said the hood ornament was from a Packard. I sure don't know, so decided to go to the experts. The length is approximately 17-1/2", and the number cast into the bottom is 407593 7811. Does anyone recognize this as Packard, and if so, what year(s) and model(s)? And, if not Packard, does anyone recognize what it may have come from? Thanks very much for any assistance!

Hi Mike,
Looking forward to this blog, since I love the '55 Clippers. That looks like a really solid car. If you get a chance, post some more pics of the car. Paul

Thanks Steve. I figured there was a good explanation.
![]() I had heard the '51 thru '54 cars referred to as a "high pockets" design, but that to me always seemed somewhat derogatory. I like 'contour' much better.

Here is a direct link:
https://www.vanderbrinkauctions.com/lot-item/101g-2/ The last picture shows what looks like an overdrive relay on the firewall, at least the type of OD relay used in Studebakers of this vintage. Steve, help me out on something (I apologize for my lack of Packard knowledge).......you said: If you have a Contour that you'd prefer to change to manual shift, here's your parts car. What is a "Contour"? A nickname for a certain style of Packard? Thanks in advance.

Sorry to hear this. Even though I didn't know Craig personally, my involvement in Pontiac TransAms in the late seventies and early eighties made me very aware of him and H-O Racing Specialties.
I didn't know Craig was into Packards, that is so cool. Spent some time looking at his website; there is some great info here for Packard folks. It will be a shame to see all this great info disappear.
