1948 Packard Master Sales Program
#1

Hello,

I've recently acquired two mostly complete sets of the 1948 Master Salesman program records and film slides.

I'd like to digitize these. Looks like they are 16" (transcription?) records and I'm not sure what the film strips are. Some of the films include "Three of the Finest", "The Little Giants:, etc.

Does anyone know what the best equipment to play these on are? I have heard some of these large format records play from the inside groove out, so I'm not sure if a conventional turntable will run them. Most of these films are already uploaded on youtube, but not always in the best quality. I also have some service-related films that look like a smaller film format.

Packard "Coupe" Limousine/Town Car

Came across this rather interesting 1949 model on a facebook Packard group. It appears to have received a town car body. Note the script on the front fenders. I wonder if anyone might know something about it? It is currently for sale in France for $30,000. It appears to be generally fairly solid, but the photos are very poor.

Solid looking 1947 Super Clipper in British Columbia, Canada. Does not seem like a car with an extensive service history so will probably require a handful of suspension items and a good tuneup. Some wiring in the engine bay looks a little funny.

I've done it on a Ford, also 6v positive ground. It's quite straightforward. It will not look quite stock under the hood but it's nothing glaring and easily converted back to stock. The kit was a Pertronix.

It seem most issues result from the coil or improper installation as opposed to issues with the unit itself. I personally prefer to keep the original system as it is adequate and easy to fix on the side of the road. But there's no denying a better spark will improve combustion and benefit drivability and the long term life of the engine.

Re: 1939 Packard SIX Leaf Springs

I had a 1957 Oldsmobile with liners and had them replaced with new custom leaf springs (no liners that I could see) from a local truck shop with no noticeable difference. Some manufacturers used to cite the damping effect provided by leaf friction as a reason for using leaves over coils. I would presume the difference is fairly minor for most late pre-war cars and on but it would have probably made a big difference before hydraulic dampers were in common use. Usually I'm just glad to have springs that aren't all saggy and cracked anymore 😅.

50' Club Sedan for auction in Alberta, Canada. Seems quite solid for the current bidding price, but still a few days to go.

JD, do you still have the part number for that by any chance? I'm hunting for a 22nd Series Custom and it would be useful to know once I get mine.

Yes, no kidding Duncan. An hour with a bucket, rag and a chamois would add $$'s to the value of that offering. Some folk's level of seller motivation on their used automobile confounds me, but I guess that's true with anything for sale. Detail it; looks like somebody cares. Chris.

I once showed up to look at an old Mercedes and when I arrived it was literally on fire. Things can always be worse ;).

Not sure who makes them but you could also try Max Merritt, Terrill, or Egge.

The internal hose is quite well protected and are often in great shape unless there has been severe internal leakage. But worth checking.
