Does that make sense? If the threads are virtually undisturbed , why are there now leaks from around the studs? I don't have the answers, maybe someone smarter than me (wouldn't be hard) does?

That was a thought I too had creeping in the back of my mind…

Yes there is a brand new head gasket in there.

There is still coolant coming out after the retorque and only on studs above the water jacket.
Only some of the nuts moved a little bit, if at all.
I also only had it get up to temp a few times before the retorque. Should I maybe just try to retorque after more heat cycles?

I am unsure if I have the rolled or cut threads.
If the threads are rolled would they be rolled on the block side as well as the head side or just the block?
I ask because I know it is going ti be a pain to get the studs out as the machine shop i took it to said they tried but were unable to get any of them loose.
If they need thread sealer I am not sure I will be able to even get them out.

I want to do this right, not just put a bandaid on the problem.

Attached the most detailed photo I could find of the studs.

Hello all, back with more problems.
When I went to retorque my head studs I noticed that a couple of them were weeping coolant. Is this something I can fix by simply putting new paint over the top; or is that just going to be like putting lipstick on a pig?

Most platers that do bumpers can handle the dents and even cracks but the grille is pot metal that takes special care but can also be repaired. Typically your local plater, though, even if they say they can do pot metal will likely ruin the parts so best to send off to a specialist.

Good to know, thanks! Any recommendations on such specialists? I live in Utah but am not opposed to sending parts across the country. The closer the better!

Your 22 series is a late model with one piece bumpers. Have you thought of removing the paint to see what is undamaged and replatable? I have the center grill and the two long center bars, will have to dig through some boxes to see what I have of the smaller parts and take some pictures. The picture is of my station sedan with the early bumper. Dell

I have been working on stripping the paint off. And have it about halfway done but it takes a LOT of paint stripper.
I think everything should be replateable on the grille except for maybe the long center price and the identical long lower center piece. These have cracks (pictured). Might it be possible to weld these cracks on the backside of the piece then have them rechromed? Are the cracks in this place a somewhat common issue?
As for the bumper and the guards on it I am not so sure. The guards are pretty beat up with most of the chrome cracked off and dented as well as having some serious rust. As for the bumper bar it has a couple spots where the chrome has cracked off causing bad rust. It also has a couple dents. I am unsure if it is possible to get the dents pounded out before it gets rechromed but I would imagine not.
Haven’t had the chance to strip the paint off the back bumper and see what is hiding beneath the paint yet. I do know, however there are a couple spots where the chrome has come up and allowed serious rust spots. There is also a rotted out hole under the license plate light lens.

Yes, there is a distinction and it makes a big difference in knowing which when looking for parts! I've only ever had one 22nd series so not an expert but I believe there were mid-year changes in the bumpers so the photos should help.

How do I know which one I have? What is the difference I need to look for?

I have many 22 series grill parts and some bumper parts. No one piece bumpers. Can you send part numbers or pictures of what you need, also jr or senior? I also have a complete 23 series grill. Dell

Also I’m not sure if it is a junior or senior model. I didn’t think the 22nd series had that distinction. I have the 1948 Packard super eight touring sedan (2272) model 2202

Not sure if these are the right part numbers for the bumper. I am not sure without a part plate to verify.
Bumper assy-rear 412868 2.0005
Bumper assy-front 410517. 2.000
Bar-bumper Impact 412786. 2.001 front
Bar-bumper Impact 389514. 2.001 rear
Guard-rear fender 395549. 2.0056 right
Guard-rear fender 395548. 2.0056 left

Attached are the pictures of my bumpers and grill pieces I currently have.
Looking for the grill price part numbers right now.
