I did find one. Max Merrit did not have it listed on their website. I did call and talk to Fred. He found one and is sending it.

I also need a 412444 for my 51 200 Deluxe with overdrive. That is what came out of the parts list. I am also having trouble finding one, however, I have only been looking for 2 days!

Packard Don posted a picture and a link to the parts book which gave me a parts number. Using that number I still could not find one. I have a week or so before the tranny will be ready to put back in. If I can't find one b then I will just put it back together without the pinion and add the pinion when I find one. Thanks everyone for the help and advice.

Mine is an overdrive as well. I will just attach it to the cable and install. I may put a little grease on the end of the cable/end o the pinion to keep it in place. Where can I get a replacement pinion? I tried Merritts. Doesn't look like they have them. I googled the part# as well as the description and couldn't find anything.

Thanks Don. That looks like what I am missing. The replacement cable that I got from Merritts has a cone on the end with the square drive inside of it. Do I need something to keep the drive pinion from falling into the transmission or will it stay by contact?

A while back I replaced the speedometer cable in my 51 Packard 200 Deluxe 3 spd with overdrive. The speedometer still didn't work. I am now replacing the clutch and have the tranny out. There is no drive gear to engage the speedo cable. It looks like there should be a cartridge or something that hooks the cable to the gear on the output shaft. There is nothing to engage the cable end. What am I missing?

I recently got a 1937 120 touring sedan. The top is dull and dusty. What do you apply to the top to give it the appearance that it once had?

Thanks Mike and Howard. Pretty much straight forward rope seal install. I have never done one is a car this old-mostly did 10-15 year old cars and trucks back in the day. I have some small long brass cleaning brushes that I may use to clean the top seal surface. I will let you know how it comes out. Very interesting blog Mike. Thank you. Tracy in Omaha.

Rear seal leaking on my 51 200 Deluxe

I'm having an issue with my 51 200 Deluxe. The rear main seal is bad and is getting oil onto the clutch. The clutch was slipping so bad I could barely get it into the driveway. I already have a rear main seal and oil pan gasket. To replace the seal the manual says you have to remove the tranny. We used to be able to replace the rope rear seal on other makes-the Big 3, with out removing the tranny. I have never tried this on a Packard. The other thing is I don't know if I could get the clutch cleaned up enough from the bottom by spraying brake cleaner. This worked on most cars except for some of the trucks. Any help or advice? Thanks, Tracy in Omaha,
