After a long break with some other urgent business I'm back to my project. I've completely disassembled the interior and will give it a good pressure washing before I start to scrape and prepare for painting. Incidentally, I have looked for that piece of paper around the gas intake, but have not located anything. Here's a picture of the dismantled interior.

I hope you bought that Packard. The bathtubs are my favorite. My uncle had one, my dad had several, and now I have one that I'm rebuilding with my boys. Good luck with it.

Thanks for the advice by Rusty 0/toole, about removing the whole front end as an assembly. I already removed the grill and bumpers. The next step is to tackle the fenders; I have two strong 13 year old sons that are working on this with me, we are going to give it a shot this sunday. I'm wondering if having removed the grill won't weaken to whole assembly. If it does I'll remove it in pieces.

I also found a little broshure that was tied to the clock. I scanned it and here is the front page of it. The pages were very brittle almost like butterfly wings, but I was able to scan it all.

I'm in the process of taking off the crystals and have removed the dash and wire harness. I found that the wires were completely corroded. It was cloth type insulation, it just didn't hold up. I'm going to re-wire it all from scratch. Here is a picture of the dash.

I had the same issue with my boat, it appeared to have fuel bucause I could see it in the glass filter, but yet it would peter out, after about 20 minutes of running it. It turned out that there was a ceramic fuel filter in the carburator just upstream of the needle valve that was partially clogged, I removed it and have been boating for hours on end without any problem.

There's a lot of Packards in history. I have book that has President Truman riding on a Packard, as well as, a presidential candidate, whose name escapes me now, of the 1940's. I'll see if can dig out the pictures when I get home.

Thanks for the advice on not removing the engine. I'll be removing the fenders and detail it in place.

Thank you all for your advice. I let the engine run for about 1/2 hour the first day. The second day I ran it another 1/2 hour and I got less blow by than the first. I'm going to remove the oil pan as suggested put slightly heavier oil. I don't recall seein an oil filter though. Does this engine have one?

I'm restoring my packard and I'm trying to evaluate weather to take the engine out and maybe give it a ring job and change the valve guides, but it may not be necessary. I got a little bit of blue smoke when I started it up after 12 years. But I noticed there is a pipe sticking out of the right side of the engine and pointed down. AS the engine runs, smoke comes out of it. Is this normal, or is this blow by?
