Have here a Twin UltraMatic to install in my '56 400. Transmission was shipped here dry (i.e., completely drained of all fluid) Q - Is it safe to install and then fill or should fill the torque convertor and sump before running the engine?

Spoke with Dave Schumacher earlier today - he has no stock.
A custom one-off set would cost nearly $300.

Apparently these are no longer in production and there's no old stock available. If anyone can help please let me know.

Really hoping someone can help me out here. My '56 400 was a victim of a hit and run collision while parked - Major damage to the bumper, grille and RF fender. Recently contacted a chap in Winnipeg Canada who had a pair of NOS senior fenders, but lost his contact info when my email client imploded. Needless to say I've moved on to a more robust email solution.

If the engine hasn't run for a while I'd suggest that you remove the spark plugs and liberally lubricate all the upper cylinder areas with a light aerosol oil using a flexible nozzle extension. Then crank the engine a bit to lubricate the bearings before replacing the plugs. The 4GC carb will probably need rebuilding - the accelerator pump plunger has likely deteriorated by now. Pouring raw gasoline into the carb will get the engine started but isn't a great idea.

Gasoline ain't what it used be - It's no longer distilled from light sweet crude, but cracked from heavy crude. If the gasoline in your fuel tank is several months old it has already begun to revert to form - i.e., the lighter portions are long gone. Trying to get any engine to run right with old fuel is a frustrating exercise. Adding a stabilizer helps, but isn't a cure-all.
