Packard V8: I found the answer to a question you asked in this thread. August 20, 1956 Churchill announced that he felt the best solution to the Packard question was to continue the name on an interim basis through 1957 to be built on the Studebaker President Classic chassi with the 1957 Golden Hawk engine. It would cost $1.1 million in tooling for the 57 Packard. The Board of Directors approved and the work was begun for projected January 1957 announcement.

In the mid 50's Packard alone bought parts and services from 30,000 vendors.

EC Nance to me was like an old poker player that had a bad hand, who knew the end was near but tried bluffing his way though.

I would see no reason for buying that back issue as I already have a very complete history of Packard in my library from many different sources.

I guess I am a new member of PAC but have no intention of being a member after my membership expires next March.

ECAnothony: Maybe you should read more of the Ward book. In April 1955 S-P's accountants estimated that in 1955 Packard would sell around 48,000 cars for the model run of 1955 and that, was well below the 60,000 units that Packard had budgeted for. The S&P accountants at that time also stated that Packard would lose $47.5 million for the year.

In 1955 Nance was told by the division's add agency that the number of dealers he had ( would be inadequate to successfully introduce the new 1957 line). This all happened in the early part of 1955. People like NANCE knew dang well in the first few months of 1955 that Packard was finished.

Packard not getting the loans you referred to didn't exactly cause the end of Packard as you stated, it was merely the final nail in Packard's coffin.

Tom: If you think that you have gotten a bad product from a vendor don't be afraid to state thier name. No use of beating around the bush.

I would contact the vendor and tell them of the problem and return them.

I listened to Motor Trend on the radio today while spending a couple of hours at the animal shelter today.

On the program they interviewed the head person for Bugatti in the USA. He went onto describe you go about purchasing a Veyron Your pay $450,000 up front to get an a waiting list that is 10 to 12 months long. Then when you are notified that the factory is ready to build your Veyron you pay another $450,000 and visit the factory and consult them on the finer things of how you would like the Veyron equipped. To get the Veyron you pay the remaining cost of the car and drive away with it.

Pat: PAC is like so many other automotive clubs its leadership doesn't have clue as to how to promote the club and expand and make it grow. Also in most cases the leadership of a club wants to keep it very closed so they can run things the way they want with out being accountable to a big membership.

The above are my thoughts only and my remarks are not directly aimed at PAC as all can see.

Scott: Thanks for for pictures from Warren. If it wasn't for taking care of some unfinished business with PAC I would have probably chosen to go to Warren instead of Gettysburg. The wallet didn't allow both in the same week.
