you are right on the money. patience, and study are the keys here and i intend to pursue both. I do hope to find something mostly done, and done correctly because at 70, i can't do what I could at 50, lol. thanks again to all for the good advice.

good morning. I decided to pass on this car (link here so you can see it)https://www.carsforsale.com/vehicle/details/59431844 because the ad only mentioned it needed a clutch.
Upon asking if there were any other issues, and only after asking, i was informed about the nonfunctional horn, wiring issues, a missing piece of interior trim.. but never was told that the car had no brakes.

I had negotiated with a shipper to pick up the car and the shipper wanted me to verify that since there was an issue with the clutch, that the car did indeed roll, steer and stop. It was at that point that when i asked the seller for confirmation i was told that the brakes did not work.

the last issue was that the title, which came from oklahoma, was signed over to the current seller incorectly and would take me weeks to get that fixed.

But at the end of the day, not being told about the brakes, and wiht the car out of state and me not seeing it firsthand made me decide to enjoy my 52 for the time being and keep looking. Not suggesting the seller was shady, but one would think that the ad should of said....needs work on the clutch and brakes. oh well. i should ad that the dealer, a friend of the seller who was helping him, seemed not be be aware about the brake issue until i asked.

Again, thank you all for the good advice. I really want this car but late last night the dealer (who is helping his neighbor sell the car) sent me a copy of the title...as I asked to make sure I can register the car in north carolina....and it seems the car, which was brought to vermont from oklahoma was filled out incorrectly.

then, since the transport company i am planning to use asked to make sure the car rolls, stops and turns.....i asked the dealer to confrim.... now i find out that "from sitting" the brake pedal goes to the floor...no brakes, but parking brake works. i read on the forum that this can happen.... so the question.... for $4000, and now no brakes.... is this car worth brining to nc from vermont? thank you. the issues is i am not the most mechanically inclined guy. my limit so faor was simple tune up, etc. thank you!!!

The plate says 2382 so I am assuming super eight. i have not been able to get a local mechanic to look but we face timed and i heard the engine run.. sounded good, no smoke, knocks or strange noises. paint and chrome are good, interior is nice, four new wide whitewalls. Engine was supposedly rebuilt by the previous owner...no paperwork, The big, or at least big to me issues.

current owner says it needs a clutch (but also says clutch was fine when he put the car up a year or so ago). Shifter apparently will not go into gear.... but my question is if the clutch actually was ok when he put the car into storage, how or why would it go bad just like t hat. is it possible the linkage somehow is stuck?

Other issues, horn not working, same for the wipers and wiring for the turn signals seems backwards.

i can get the car for $4k which is makaing it very attractive to me. When we facetimes, underneath looks solid, no rust or rot. Am I crazy?

Thank you all for the feedback and advice. I probably can't make the trip to Vermont from NC....but here is what has got me losing sleep over this car..... We facetimed...and i heard the engine run and it sounds good. no excessive smoke, no knocking or banging. the man is a bit older than me... early 70's, has other old cars he drives around and said I could have the car for $4,000. I know that cars always look better in pictures, but from what i saw, no rust, clean interior, good chrome, etc. Looks like mabe $800-$1K to ship it.... so??

I am a relatively new owner of a 1952 Packard 200 Deluxe and have enjoyed getting her back on the road. So far, new voltage regulator, rebuilt generator, rebuilt carb and new water pump. Now, i stumbled across a 1949 and love the lines. Problem it is out of state and I am told it needs, among other things, a clutch. I have heard these are hard and costly to replace. the car, while nice looking, has some electrical issues...turn signals work backwards..pushing the lever for the left signla activates the right....horn does not work, no wipers, etc. So, the main question, am I crazy to be considering it and about how much would a shop charge to replace the clutch. I hear the engine run, but with no clutch, have no idea of the conditon of the tranny, either. thanks in advance!

water pump questions

Thanks, in advance, for your guidance. The water pump on my 1952 200 Deluxe died and my new one finally came from Kanter. I've read conflicting information regarding the installation...specifically whether to use some sealant for the gasket or not.

Also, the other issue is once the water pump is installed, is it ok to run the car right away or wait a day? I read that I should turn the water pump manually before starting the car. True or false? I also plan to add fresh antifreeze. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, as always!
