Mal - You are both gracious and humble. As I've written to you in a PM, you really do yeoman's duty the way you keep track of the cars and encourage readers of PI to register their cars. It's really an important service you do IMO. So a tip of the hat to you!

This one is definitely a project but it is a very salvageable car:

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1958-packard-hawk-5/

This question has arisen in the comments at the listing on B-a-T: "How many of the original 588 built survive?"

The seller thinks the number is around 50. Mal only has 5 registered in his registry at PI. Can anyone "in the audience" point us to where we might find the number?

A Packard Museum in New Zealand covers most years of Packard production, up to and including a Packard Hawk.

"The Undertaker", who is also a "Gear Head" has a model of the James Ward Packard Memorial in his office and sent us photos of it as well as the link to the actual Memorial in Warren, OH.

I think the '53 Cavalier mentioned above is seen in this video. I think this is the same car that was shown on the Today Show.

My mistake on the year! I got an e-mail from another reader who identified the car as a '30. Be that as it may, I (ahem) SHOULD have realized that the car isn't a '34.

I edited the year out of the post. Thank you for calling attention to my error!

Self-Parking '34 Packard

Auto historian Alden Jewell provided us with a video of a self-parking pre-war Packard. The inventor lived in Piedmont, CA in the hills above Oakland. He tried again after World War II with the device installed in an early '50s Cadillac and in a '53 Packard Cavalier. The Packard was seen on NBC's Today show.

We also feature today Bruce S.'s home brew '64 Studebaker Commander R4.
