Hardtop 1951-1956,
1st generation 1951-1954,
"Caribbean" door panels 1951-1952,
elongated stainless steel "bottle openers" on rear fender 1952-1953,

It seems the match would be a 1952 Mayfair.

Yeah. You have to get the proportions right. How about this one? The horizontal elements keep one thinking of a wider front end while the vertical part still has a "Packard" feel to it.

I believe he is referring to a TV show which is lightheartedly spoofing all of the "EPIC MINISERIES" from the 1970-80's (Roots, North and South, Rich Man, Poor Man, etc.

The first series was 'Spoils of Babylon' where a bombastic writer/director/etc. (a spoof on Orson Wells) Eric Jonrush (Will Ferrell) introduced his last great work of art, albeit cut down to 6-8 30 minute episodes. Basically involved a poor family becoming rich and the daughter becoming consumed with her adopted brother. Will Ferrell's portrayal is just as much if not funnier than the episodes.

The new series is 'Spoils before Dying' and is supposed to be a 1950's film noir take off that "President Eisenhower burned all copies to prevent the disturbing nature to infect America's youth." Burned all but one.

If anyone has ever had to (parent watched them) sit through some of those hammy telepics then you might find this show amusing.

Also in that manual it states that the custom radio changes color with tone. The more bass chosen the bluer, the treble is in reddish light with the middle lit in amber. I always heard the 1950's were the jukeboxes on wheels. Never imagined a multi-tone radio and speedometer needle giving off hues in prewar cars. they should've kept those to for postwar models.

Yeah, their are a few things off about this car.

1. The stitching on the driver side cushion. You know the red bolster (at least) was replaced because the stitching doesn't line up. On my old Mayfair with the original cloth/leather upholstery which is hideous now, the stitching still lines up.

2.Dash: from what I understand, the 250 series in 51-52 should have the senior series dash which has coloring of (inner button to outer ring) gold green and silver with gold lettering. Also there is no trip meter.

3. The front end looks like a 1952 model but the headlight rings are from 53-54.

What about the Agate and Topaz? I think they were the light brown/dark brown combination and with a matching interior it would look great and better match the interior than a white and something combination.

If your going for a black exterior. How about the 1952 ebony gold paint. It was supposedly a paint option but it seems very few were actually painted. It is in the 1952 spec book. Good luck with your rebuild!

Wow, another early fifties Mayfair hardtop! A 1952 I think by the grill and cormorant and windows. That car is one that looks original spending 60+ years in the South. The other looks like a 53-54 clipper.

The Mayfair is very interesting as it is advertised as being original and stored since 63.

Note the upholstery as the striped plastic cloth inserts were supposed to be on the convertible (as per the facts book) and the dash instruments are wrong for a 250 Packard. One could argue that perhaps it was an early example of that model but then where did the grill teeth come from then? Back to the upholstery, there are no seams coming apart or 60+ year old leather becoming ashy and crumbly nor the drivers seat a little depressed? hmmm. Nice clear glass with no faded rough spots on the dash?

My mistake. I thought your dials were Gold-Silver-Green(with white lettering). Mine is Gold-Green-Silver(with gold lettering). I have seen some with a gray and black coloring in one of the circles but usually the extra color was green. Even seen Gold-Green-Green(with white lettering) somewhere. Packard's subtle hint at differences in product lines were very small for 51-54. Good luck on your project.
