Ok, thanks...thats what I'll do. The pump is all mechanical/gear driven, correct? I was looking around for an exploded view of the pump, but am unable to locate it. Anyone have a copy they can post of it? Just want to familiarize myself with the part...
Thanks,
Rich

Oil Pump - 1930 Super 8

Hi all...looking for some advice/recommendations with respect to the oil pump. I removed the oil pan this weekend and gave it a good cleaning...was full of years of sludge...really glad a dropped it and cleaned all that stuff out. Before reinstalling the pan, is there anything that I need to do to the oil pump while I have the pan dropped? I wouldn't mind taking the pump off and cleaning it, but not sure how big a deal that is or if it is needed. The screen right below the metal sleeve looks clean, doesn't have any holes or obstructions. If I do need to remove the pump, are there any issues or tips with respect to its removal?
Thank you in advance as always, as I would not be able to have learned so much about my car without the expertise located on this site and the people that share their knowledge here.
Thanks,
Rich

This may be OBE by now, but I just took the DL51 off my 1930. It works fine and is in good shape. For sale, pics are located in the for sale section of this site.
Not sure if it will work on a 1932, it looks identical.

I ended up buying the permatex copper spray…says it is specifically for head and exhaust gaskets. You spray it on both sides of the gasket…let it dry and install the gasket.

Head gasket question…do I need to use a sealant?

Hi,
Replacing the head gasket on a 1930 Super 8 engine. As I’m getting ready to install the new gasket….very nice copper gasket I purchased from Olson’s…I am not sure if I need to use some kind of sealant. I think the answer is no, and this is just a crush-type copper gasket…but wanted to ask to make sure. Sealant, or no sealant? …and the head nut torque is 65 lbs, correct?
Thanks,
Rich

Replying to this thread to move it to the top of the discussion board.

Scam targeting of Packard Info site:

User: Saddj

Uses numerous personal emails to solicit funds via paypal, venmo, etc.

He has no items for sale and will take your money. I googled the items he sent me that he has for sale and they are photos from other sites on the net.

****But Beware....this person will simply get a new account, change their user name and continue scamming.
Dont be a victim and ensure you talk to the person you are doing business with, check the photos, ask for additional specific photos, and always pay through a site that offers protection. Only use friends and family if you trust that person.
