Taking out the heater core on a 55 400

Despite a lot of anti-freeze, I had quite a leak when I put the heat on, in the interior. What a mess.

I bypassed the heater core. Wanted to verify there are only 4 hoses that go to it.

Can someone tell me how to remove the heater core so I can have it rebuilt. I have heard it was a challenge.

Also can anyone sell me that little gold shield that is right near the "Packard" script on the dash? Some motherf#!$er stole it in the garage.

Thanks for all your help

Thanks for your responses. My mechanic did not do the rears because of the problem getting the drums off. I do drive the car often in good weather and like to keep the parking brake moving in case there is a brake failure.

What I mean is that when the motor is running the brake pedal is immovable. Maybe some tapping with a rubber mallet on the brake pedal and/or the parking brake. The car is in a municipal garage and I can't work on it where it is.

Thanks MC

I think the BTV came from Kanter

Greetings from the Commonwealth of Pa. I hope some of you experts can help me. I have a real nice 55 400 that had brake work done on last year. The shoes were of, did the front wheel cylinders and the BTV - master cylinder was replaced as well. I understand this is a part of the car which leaves much to be desired. The car stopped well after the work was done, tho the brakes grabbed some.

We had a nasty winter here and the parking brake froze. I waited till it got to be about 50 and tried again. No dice but some papping moved it about an inch forward. The service brake will not move at all.

I don't want to break anything but any advice would be much appreciated. I have read on the forum that the BTV does not do well when laid up and the car has been sitting since November in the garage though I've started it periodically.

If the BTV is bad would this be a good time for a safer upgrade?

Despite the fact I used plenty of anti-freeze the heater core is leaking. I've looked for a replacement no dice. Is it easier to rebuild the existing one? Thanks and regards MC

Hello. Do you still have any of the Oldsmobile based oil pump kits available? Thanks Michael

Good morning all. My headlights and dash lights stopped working on a 1955 Model 500. Turn signals and parking & brake lights are all ok..

When the headlight switch is in the on position I hear a sort of click every 8 seconds. I'm thinking that this is the circuit breaker trying to reset.

I guess I'll start with the headlight switch and circuit breaker which I think is one unit. Any other ideas much appreciated. Best MC
