Guys today I ......

* Got a Innova timing/dwell/rpm gun.

*Got the timing perfect

*Adjusted rpm at idle to 450 or so using low speed adjusting screw. Do you adjust your rpm after warm or cold?

*Tried to tune carb idle to 18-20 vacuum but I couldn't get it any higher than 16. Super steady at 16 really no fluctuation. Is this something I should worry about? Why wouldn't it go higher? Did I miss a step?

*I noticed the exhaust never really comes out of the drivers side tail pipe. I will even manually open the heat riser and still not really feel anything. The pic of the exhaust shows a drip from the drivers side muffler. How long does it take for the heat riser to open? Is this normal?

Thanks for the help guys!

Your never know, you can do multiple coats with the Bill Hirsh sealer. I did two coats and still have a good amount left over. I wonder if you could just keep recoating until you either use the whole can or feel confident the pin holes will stay sealed.

it was originally painted turquoise which means its out of a 55 Clipper Custom. That's OK as it is the exact same engine as should be in it--a '55 352.

Thanks Ross, I was thinking the Transmission was either pulled, rebuilt and painted or it was from another car that had that paint option. I didn't know that was a option for a 1955 Clipper Custom. I think they just swapped the transmission out and the not whole engine because I can still see old ivory paint on some of the engine pieces.

So I can use 3/4 reach on a 55 400? From all my reading I thought the 55's are 7/16 reach and 56's are 3/4 reach? I think I read so much about spark plugs I went full circle back around to not knowing crap!

Ok so after reading a TON about spark plugs I am still kinda lost which set of the plugs below would you get for a 55 400?

7/16" Reach.........AC43LS gap.035.

3/4" reach AC 45RXLS or 45XLS gap .035.

I could get the 45RXLS from O'reilly but I think the others I can get from Ebay.

This is what I was worried about. That would be a bummer. Is there any way to tell what is leaking without full dissasembly? Thanks

For that no big deal.

Left side.

The bottom one goes up. On heat riser

A bitch to explain.

Hey Rick, I think I did it the right way unless I am misunderstanding you. I put the the flat side of exaust gaskets against manifold and the one that goes on heat riser flat side up against manifold as well. Right? Thanks for all the help!

So after starting her up today I followed the manual and added more transmission fluid until full. After idling for awhile and being driven down the street and back I have a pretty good drips coming from the little home on the torque converter cover. From reading past threads I see this could be a failing front seal. Could this be the result of sitting since 1975 until 2 years ago? The drip stops pretty quickly after parking. Is this something I need to adress asap . I plan on doing what you did Howard, put a unused container under it after parking and just reuse the same fluid topping off as needed. I doubt the converter drain plugs are leaking, I snugged them up good after draining.

So do you guys think I should undo the exhaust manifold and flip the gaskets? Putting the flat side towards the head and the side with more body towards the manifold? You can go to the 3rd page of this thread and you will see the original pics go the gaskets picture taken from both sides.
