Sportsters were available in all three trim levels of the clipper line. i have personaly seen one example of each. some of them including one pictured in the "packard motor car photo archive 1946-1958" even had the panama script on them. which would make sense due to the fact that the spotster was supposed to be a special model marketed towards those who wanted a panama but couldn't afford one. my Sportster is a delux trim car, but has "clipper" scripts where the "panama" scripts are normaly. My car also left the dealership with a pre '53 sr 327-9 main drivetrain installed per the owner's request.

mistake #1 NEVER talk to the sales dept at Mallory! i got the same reaction! so i demanded to talk to the tech guys. same reaction. so i asked if there was some one there that had been there more than 30 years and they transfered me to an actual machinest. i told him what i was looking for. "yes i remember those. let me see if i can find the blue prints and i'll call you back" i told him i had a copy of the e-bay listing i could e-mail him, and i did.
the next day he called me and said "i found the blue-prints, check your e-mail you have a message regarding how to order one." and i recieved this:

nice project you have here. who ever told you that a painted grill is cheap and truck like needs to be refered to this book:

packard motor cars: 1946-1958 photo archive

in it are several 51-54 models wearing painted outer grill shells with chrome centers. and these are FACTORY Packard produced photos! so if you want to get real picky your painted grill could be considered "correct" even if no 51-54 ever left the factory that way!

i think All brands of cars are luck of the draw! Chrysler products are the only american car i have ever had any luck with besides packards. my 89 lebaron coupe has at best guess over 350k on it now. but the odo quit so i don'y know the exact figure. i am just now starting to have to replace worn out parts. but it never fails to start, and on the highway every weekend back and forth to my parents which is about a 200 mile weekend it averages 52 mpg. so i'm sold on it. however i will say that there are very few chrysler products built after 94 that i care for.

i wouldn't ask "fitch" Hank. i still have a question to ask you about some of the parts you used on the chassis. is it still ok if i call? we'll discuss the t-c then too.

my conversion kits are still in the works. i had my machinest put them on hold for a while as i had bigger problems (family/health issues ) to worry about. but they are back in the works. so god willing they will be ready soon.

very slow progress. my machinest is still covered up with making tooling for john deere's new reman plant. he works on the "kits" when he can but free time for them has been scarce right now. so i'm working on other packard "parts projects" right now. i hope to have the kits out soon and then some reproduction parts for the cars shortly there after.
