got a door problem also, yours might be adjustment of post on body compare to other side or door that works better. Are your margins around door uniform when closed? Is 1/4 inch margin a factory standard (comments please) I have a door that is 3/8 inch on front and 1/8 on back and cannot get it to move forward 1/8th. (2 door convertible) the 3/8 verticle margin is uniform so no sag. I am ready to increase hole in hinge 1/8th so I can move it forward and get my desired 1/4 inch margin front and back. I am wondering if the door or hinges are original on this car.

took me three days to think of this but, disconnect vacuum line set at 6 btdc at 500 rpm, while watching pointer increase rpm watch and note range of increase perhaps 16 degree increase, have to figure some way to measure accurately, hot rod chevys have that aftermarket tape with scale for balancer, then I can judge the mechanical advance system. for example if the mechanical weights are stuck there would be no change and I would have to set timing at 6 plus 16 which is what appears to be the case. Now have to find the time for me to try this.

did the above (prior post) test on vacuum unit already seems ok

wondering

if the distrib set at 6 btdc then upon acceleration the weights advance it x degrees and then vacuum advance kicks it further by x degrees where does that leave me degree wise?

update

I am thinking pointer is correct. disconnected advance line attached my 40 yr old + vacuum gauge. 20 pounds steady. need tach but got idle down as low as it will go but not sure actual number. my tim ing light shows me just past scale when I seem to be in the right spot as far as performance goes, no hard crank, no ping, runs much better.
its hard to read the scale is the last number 12? my eyes aint what they used to be. could the weight springs be nfg, might have to pull distrib this weekend and look.

any comments appreciated

back to basics

if I pull plug 1 and turn over until the piston hits top I should be tdc or dc which is on balancer, if pointer is off Degree scale should be obvious

Hi
playing with timing which I understand s/b 6 btdc which I set and it runs like crap advanced further a guess is to 15 btdc and it runs much much better. starts great and do not hear any ping noise. did not disconnect advance but was at very low idle. should advance be disconnected?

comments please
