39super8 i was actually going to ask for the specifics that you pointed out. This is a really interesting thread for me as both a loyal Packard guy and Cummins guy.

I was surprised when this was signed into law here maybe 2 or three years ago, because honestly i thought it allready was the law. That video has been around forever and it isa very clear reminder of what can happen. Ive had to work along roadways before and its no fun.

theres a bunch of videos on youtube of a hotrod powered by a supercharged Packard Straight 8. In fact i think the builder is a member here. It is really badass!

with firedome. it would be competeing with rolls, bently and the like. Throughout automotive history all marques have had their own styling, but it still (with a few exceptions) matched the trends of the time.

were supposed to get 8-15 inches toight and through tommorow. I dont bother with snowblowers, they tgake too long in anything but the lightest snow and here on the coast the snow is almost allways slushy and miserable. This winter though, has been nice. that big december storm left us with 20+ inches of dry powder.

for the smallest stors i run a snapper lt16 with a homemade electric lift plow, for medium heavy i run an early 70s international cub lowboy with a loader. For the heaviest stuff, i run a 1991 Dodge w350, powerd by a mildly modified Cummins diesel with an 8foot fisher highway plow.

i posed the zinc question to the Shell rep who comes to the garage where i work, and he told me that Chevron Delo has the highest concentration of zinc, even more than Rotella. The Cummins diesels i run have flat tappets and mechanical lifters, so i plan to switch to delo and see how it works.

I have been running a 20w-40 in the PV8 which has kept the engine happy and lifter noise free, but i may switch to delo 15w40 next time.

I tried running 10w-30 last summer as an experiment, but it seemed to thin out too much, and the lifters started to tick.

completely off topic, but i have that same tractor at home. Old cub lowboy! i think it has about 60psi of compression on a good day, but it still runs great.

On topic, that car is looking great! good luck with her! Rstoring cars and trucks and tractors has been great for me, and i hope if i have kids smeday, there will still be some old classics left around for me to teach them too!

before starting anything thats been sitting, i always like to pull the spark plugs and put some marvel or engine oil in to lube the walls and valves. I would also, after oiling, turn the engine over by hand a few times.

cleaning the oil pan and pickup screen is a good idea as well.

replace all the fluids and filters, and keep a fire extinguisher handy for the first starts.

Timing, at lest on the rotary style pump Eric posted would most likely be controlled inside the pump. The Bosch VE diesel injuction pump, a rotary pump similar to the one picture has a timing advance built in. The ve has a built in fuel transfer pump and when its pressure rises due to increased RPM, an internal piston rotates the cam ring, advancing the timing.

i hear ya, Eric. it really is sad proof of what a lot of money and very little brains will buy. even if i could explain away the horrid body work, digusting pant, sacriligious choice of powertrain ect ect ( and belive me i cant), its still a front wheel drive that he admits is all show and no go.

For the record, im not at all against the idea of a turbocharged Packard.
