53 Clipper sedan. He claims the engine was rebuilt and over $8000 invested.

Here's another ad for the 54 where the price is listed as $10,900.

1955 Panama previously titled "Bitchin 1955 Packard" before the poster edited it

Also another 55, this time a Clipper Custom 2 door. Seller says it is complete and only $1500.

Engine Stand

Just can't stay away

Another novice question, but better safe than sorry. I have had the engine on the stand and have been disassembling it to the point where I need to flip it over to get the crankshaft out. Since it is mounted sideways, and these straight 8's are huge, I am wondering if the stand is stable enough so I can turn it safely? I added some extra supports to the back legs as the pictures show but I'm still not sure.

I have finally had some more time to work on the car. I am still taking apart the engine, making sure to take lots of pictures and bag and tag all of the bolts. I got the manifold off and found lots of junk in the ports. What I am wondering is how to check the internal condition of the starter and generator. What are the internal parts supposed to look like? Some other parts look like they are either in good original condition or a previous restoration, so I am wondering if maybe the starter and generator were previously rebuilt?

I also opened up the power brake unit and found some nasty stuff in there too.

Seems like a great deal to me. Might be perfect for someone who is looking for a cheap way to get into Packards. Very solid and even has the engine!

Would this be an easy car to flip? It is pretty close to me...

Ok, thanks. So I really should just be looking for a 54 or a 55 parts car? The earlier years won't fit where I need it?

Hi everyone. I've been looking online every day for a parts car and right now I have two possibilities.

1st one is a cheap 55 Clipper 2 door that looks to have the same rear fenders as my 54. I tried to contact the seller but they must be gone for the weekend. Hopefully it is still available.http://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/cto/5566862782.html

The other possibility is a 53 Clipper 2 door with a some rust on the rear fenders. I feel like I would be able to use more off of this one than the 55, since it is basically the same, but there is more rust repair here. This one is also more expensive which would add to the total cost with shipping.

I also talked to mikes55 and he suggested I call Packard Seattle Company to see if he would part out a car. I will call him but I think it would be better for my project to get a whole parts car to use instead of having someone chop one up.

Any advice and opinions are greatly appreciated! Thanks

I'm thinking this is a typo or a very optimistic seller...

Edit: Also, a "coupe" that's a 4 door and a motor that "adjusts to 6 or 4 cyl"?

A '54 for restoration. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm assuming from the dash that it is a higher-end model?
