The Factory Parts List here is great! I have the parts book, but this is faster. So the 1954 Camshaft gear is a one year part, with likely a 5 degree timing offset compared to the 51-53 parts.
cam gear part list

The timing chain and gearset are from Kanter. I must have bought it 10 years ago and never used it. I would say the crankshaft gear and the chain look well produced, but the camshaft side gear does have a few teeth that look less than perfect. Would that really make a difference? I am not sure, probably not. Now I will consider trying to find a proper 1954 gear that has the exact cam timing and keep things at the factory spec.
Either I use the old camshaft gear and the new chain and crank gears, or I look for a NOS 1954 set. I bet that is a rare as hen's teeth.

I'm able to get the crank gear to slide on and off, but have noticed that the cam gear is different!
I think the 51-53 have a 10 degree offset compared to the 54 gearset..I remember reading a post about that at some point. Anybody else know about this?...now I'm not sure I want to use this Timing chain and gears, since it would adjust my cam and ignition Timing.
I still cant get the whole thing on yet. I may pactice with the old gearset and chain a few times.
Are there different part numbers for Timing chain and gears of different years?

In the picture where the teeth are showing, I lined up the key slot. In the pic of the key slot, I lined up the teeth. They are not exactly the same!

Thanks, I'll give both the crank and the pulley a good cleaning and check so that the gear slides easily onto the crank.

I'm hoping this is as deep as I get into this engine, and can soon start assembling cleaned and painted parts.

Hi guys,
I'm trying to get a new Timing chain and gears installed, but can't get everything on. The cam gear goes on smoothly, but the crank gear is very hard to get on. Should I put it in the oven to heat it up? Any Tricks to get this to slide together?

With tbi throttle body injection that should not be a problem since it basically behaves like a carb. If the car was converted to Port injection, where there was one injector per intake runner I think that would be a problem.

Thanks for the "car porn" Kev. That helps with a few things, but I am still wondering about the powersteering parts.
The pully I have is Black on the inside, and looks like it was painted grey at some point, but perhaps not original.

This winter I took everything off the front of the engine for freshening up paint, gaskets, rebuilt water pump etc.
Some questions about what should be grey and what should be black:
Vibration damper pulley: grey
PS pulley at crankshaft: Black
PS pump bracket: grey
Generator bracket: Black
Timing pointer?

Slowly cleaning and painting parts, and trying to do things as correct as possible.

I put 4 shoulder belts in the 53 clipper coupe that I had before. The front seat geometry worked pretty well, the back seat is OK, but not great. The middle passengers front and back only got lap belts. There might be pictures in that Blog, not sure.
In my Caribbean I put lap belts in the back seat, but haven't gotten around to putting the lap belts in the front yet.

I think mine is somewhere between germany and Florida right now, but here is another pic. The set screw goes in from the end, and the whole thing rotates in the switch.
I didnt look to see how it is atached to the bakelite switch housing.

Generator will get a looking into someday. I spent an hour last night removing the Convertible top valve. Tight quarters under the dash, but I removed the valve and sent it to Hydr-e-lectric in Florida for a rebuild. It was pretty crusty, and the crimp from the Red wire Was broken, so I think come spring I will have a working top. All Hydraulic parts will be new or rebuilt, and I will check the wires for continuity.
