Packard Blue Metallic 1948
Home away from home
Home away from home

Does anyone have a formula for Packard Blue Metallic in 48. I have even called Dupont to see it they could do a conversion to something new and I do have a solid color combo but I would like the metallic version if anyone has that. FYI the car was already stripped and painted the wrong color before so I cannot just shoot it. But any help would be appreciated. Thanks

shifting issue 1948 custom 8

The other day I found myself stuck in reverse so I opened the hood and reached in a moved the levers back to center. Well when I got back into the car I then had 2nd and 3nd no 1st or R so I got the car up on ramps and got underneath and looked all the linkage to see that all seemed to be free of any binding. Then had someone try to shift the car as I watched from below. What I saw as at the end of the column was that after the cotter pin and nut there was something that moved up and down. I oiled that then watched some more. At that point I have 1 2 3 but no R so I keep watching when I realized that there was a key or chuck that moved up and down and back and forth. So I thought might be the problem and put some white grease on that but really it isn't any better. I can drive the car but sometimes I get 1 and R but then cannot get 2 and 3. unless I put the car in neutral and move it back and for a bit then zI can get the gears I am looking for. Any ideas guys?

As for the spring show I would say it was cut with a shear. the place is huge and I mean huge. About the size of a K-mart store. I did meet the guy that did the work and he was well aware of what needed to be done and also talked about the button ends. But let me get the car back and I will take measurements and pictures. J

I sure will but it might be a couple of days as the car is having a head liner installed and not here.

yes they still have the button on the ends. The new leaf was the longest leaf that was replace and doesn't have the button. But I am going to start looking now for the rubber bumper that you talk about first. then I will go back to the spring guy

what I did was take the old springs to a spring shop; and they took out the broken one and replace it and did the same on the other side also. So it has the original smaller ones and one new one added. So they are all the same size. But could it be a rubber stop that the car is missing?

Hi, I have a question. my 48 custom 8 has new shocks and springs and I have to say it has the work botting out ever seen in a car. It isn't bad with one person but if you add a total of four every bump feels like your hitting the frame. So I took it to the mechanic and he said frist to drop the muffler as it seems like that was the noise. Well I did that and it did help a bit. But in the end with 4 people not at all. Is there some kinda spring bumber os something like that I might be missing? Or am I looking at putting another leaf in the springs. Yes it does sit level.. So any ideas might help as I also talked with a parckard guy about changing all the body mounts and he said that woundn't do much.

Thank agian

John
