I take it you don't need those wheels I have anymore, then? Figures..... the $%&&*$#% snow is just starting to melt around here so I could go up there!

Well the deal was to good to pass up for a set of 4 of them. I got them cheaper then probably I could have had them shipped to me from Kansas.

But thanks for trying to get those for me.

I just uploaded all the pics I took at the PI swap meet into the Packard Pictures area. I need some help identifing all the years/models. I took all of these on the hurry and didn't have time to get any info from the owners.

I found this pretty interesting. It is a connecting rod off some HUGE Packard engine. Possible from a PT Boat Engine or similar. It was in the original NOS packaging. The crank end was larger than my hand, and I could put my fist through it with touching anything.

Well here is my report from the Swap Meet today:

I ran across some very nice people, and several people found me and my woodie T-Shirt. I also managed to haggle the following parts for my '54:

4 Good Matching Junior Rims (off the same car)
Carb Rebuild Kit for my Carter 2102S
The front grille emblem bezel
A good front bumper guard cross bar (with splash pan and licence plate bracket)
A Heavy Duty drum puller (now I'm in business)
A brand new power coated battery retainer

All of the above for less than $225

I did take the camera with me, and will try to get pictures of all the cars uploaded into the Pictures section on the website over the next few days. I went directly from the swap-meet to Vegas (about 300+ miles) so once things settle down here I will get to uploading them.

Re: AACA Museum's Packard

Well one good thing about Packard was the fact the the door pillar tag and/or the firewall body plate usually makes it very clear what model, and series the car is. The engine number helps to verify that the engine is correct for that Model, Series also.

I often find people get screwed up because they look at the delivery date on the pillar tag. A car could have been delivered on Oct 15, 1937. But that car is really a 1938 for example. Some people just don't understand that, and I think that is where some of the confusion can set it for people.

Re: AACA MUSEUM EXPERTS ?

I'm sure the AACA relies on volunteers to help out with the displays and events.

I would imagine that not all of volunteers are experts in all of the cars. This was probably just a typo or an oversight by whomever was helping out with the sign creation.

I agree that someone should be fact-checking those kind of things as it does reflect badly those kind of things happen. But hey, thats why pencils has erasers.

Not sure if it helps or not, but some of the Automotive "Firsts" List out there on the web credit Studebaker as having the first Production LSD, and that was in 1956.

I also found this for you Packard "Firsts" People, I know some of these have been debated too death, but just reporting what is listed on Answers.com as Production Automotive Firsts. They make the caveat that while some of these items may have appeared on racing models, or prototypes before, this lists contains only items on Production Models:

First V12 - 1916 Packard "Double-Six"
First carburetor air filter - 1915 Packard Twin Six
First power door locks - 1956 Packard
First steering wheel - 1899 Packard

Honorable Mentions:

First torque converter automatic - 1948 Buick Dynaflow
Honorable mention - 1949 Packard Ultramatic (torque converter automatic)

First air conditioning - 1938 Studebaker Commander
Honorable mention - 1939 Packard and 1941 Cadillac

That is all they list for Packard.

The complete list as it is on Answers.com is attached for everyone to debate.

Well Tom is right in the respect that Posi (LSD) became an option on the Corvettes. But that was in 1957

Most manufactures had different names for the LSD:

Chevy was called Posi-Trac, Pontiac was Safe-T-Track, MOPAR was Sure-Grip, Ford was Equal-Lock.

I checked with Daytona Parts and they want $40 for the kit plus S&H. I guess $40-50 is about the going rate for these kits. I may just order from Max Merrit or Kanter as I know I can yell at someone in the event there is something missing from the kit.

Re: Powder Coating

BigKev
Powder coating is basically plastic dust that is electo-statically sprayed on a part and then its baked at about 375 degrees which causes all the "dust" to melt together and provide a nice smooth finish on the part. Powder coating is very durable and can take a lot of abuse compared to regular pant. This is why people powder coat suspension parts and sometimes the entire frame. Power coating is typically much thicker than paint. But I would not recommend it for high-heat applications.

It's great for thinks like engine accessories, pulleys, brackets, radiator support, splash pans, air cleaners, henges, and things like that. The only downside is that you really cant get it custom shaded to match every color.
