This is a wild longshot, but have the rubber fuel lines been replaced? Old lines rot from the inside out, and the inner part of the line can suck closed under prolonged suction, causing a stumble or stall on acceleration. Shutting off the engine and ceasing suction allows fuel to flow again, but is repeatable. I've had this happen on several of my '60's Fords and my '37 115c. Lines looked fine on the outside, but were soft inside and had separated from the nylon cord centered in the cross section of the line.

In my world that's a 10K car, tops. That'll offend the seller, but figures don't lie.

Nice work. That engine looks beautiful.

I had the chance a few years ago to buy a '41 Clipper that had been donated to a charity that also runs a used car lot (Union Gospel Mission Motors, Spokane). Running car, nice interior and original paint, good chrome. Had a 6v electric fuel pump added, brakes were not working, Optima battery was dead, water pump was leaking. Floors were pretty well rotted out though. Originally listed for 10.5K; gradually over about a year dropped to $6500 where it sold, either for that or perhaps less. That body style was not one I was all that interested in, and a couple months later bought my '37 115C. That Clipper though, would have been a nice project.

On my '40 110 fronts, I used these. Rears were replaced as well.

18291 Right front

That would make sense. The oil filler tube does not appear to be original to the engine, and is a little sloppy-loose. I'll compare it to one of the other engines.

I bought all four at Napa, but only have the rear cylinder numbers. I did have to use an adapter fitting on the rears for sure though, as the female connector on the newer casting did not match the male fitting. I bought the adapters at O'Reilly's.

LR NAPA UP9026
RR NAPA UP9025

For the fronts, I'm pretty sure I had the Wagner originals and took them into the NAPA warehouse (we have a regional distribution center here, LOTS of stuff) and they matched them up. The cylinders were about $10 ea. Replaced all the hoses at that time as well, which was more of a chore.

I did the rebuild kit on the master cylinder; my 115c had been sitting for a decade and the brakes were a mess. Was able to hone out the master cylinder for acceptable use though.

Almost forgot; I found this deformed, oval shaped hunk of sheetmetal in the bottom of the oil pan.

Any ideas? It's about an inch wide. No idea what it could be from, as I'm limited in my forays into Packard engines.

Started tearing into a '47 Clipper engine with the plan of putting it in my '40 110. Dropped the pan to clean it out and check the bottom end, and found this in the bottom of the bellhousing.

Yet another element to replace, in addition to the water pump and all the normal wear and tear items.

Great story. That's about the level of patina my '40 110 has on it naturally, but also added body damage. I'll bring it back to less body damage, but keep the patina.

Pretty fun stuff there.
