Yeah, I was surprised to see another packard at a dealership no less. Exchange rate is 1.27 $ for a euro, so about 16 thousand dollars is what the're asking. good luck with that!
The 2500 is not part of the price, that is an example to calculate financing, 1299 total cost what 2500 down payment... From their description: 'Very seldom packard pacific coupe from 1954. With Inline 8 cyl engine. Mega-rare as coupe. Only a few vehicles known worldwide! Great substance, practically rustfree. Optical good condition with patina. The wagon needs some additional work, especially in the interior. Paint good and chassis and underbody rust free. Chrome needs partial freshening up'

Ah, could be integrated there, kind of a V shape under the 2 red bulbs?
Funny thing, another packard showed up here in the neighborhood! For sale! Who brought all these pacifics to Germany? tinyurl.com/cpv662

He's also got a 2bbl Carb. That's making me think 288. I'll ask him to get the numbers from the side of the engine to be certain.

I saw some pictures from Kurt, and his car has a 288 head, reading the pacific build information, I see these cars had the 359 nine main engines.
I know the 327/288 heads interchange, but can you do that with the 359? I guess the engine was swapped... The car also has no backup lights. I know this was an option, but it seems like every car I see has them installed. Am I just not so obeservant? I still remember the guy from the moving company in the US asking me about my packard, 'you gonna drive that thing on the autobahn?' LOL -Mike

If you want to take a 'quick' look at the clutch, I think there is an inspection plate (or bottom half of the bellhousing) that you can unbolt. On the packard it's a cast iron part, on other cars it would be a sheet metal part.
Then you should be able to take a look at the cluth disk, flyweel and pressure plate. Good luck!

Ha! I'm excited to have some more packards nearby (140 km from me)! I see Power brakes, Auto trans....Almost the same color scheme as my 'lowly' clipper... Now I'm starting to get jealous and wish I had a higher end model ?
As a refernce point: When I imported my Clipper and had it appraised by ADAC (German AAA), it was valued at 7,200 Euro with a 'zustand note' 3 (condition grade) Note 1 -highest grade for a clipper was 16,000? A Pacific should be higher... Cool!

Re: 51 200 auto to manual swap

My uncles did this swap on their 53 Carib, it must have been in the late 70's or early 80's when I was old enough to notice that my grandfathers clipper had an auto trans with a burgundy steering column and my uncles carib had a manual trans and a blue steering column. There were (at least) 2 packards in the family at that time, so parts cars were no problem.
Given a source of parts, I can't imagine it would be too bad, besides: trans and bellhousing swap, cooling lines out, column swap, pedals, driveshaft. Rear axle.... just a few small pieces haha. Depends on your level of experience I guess. Good luck, Mike

Re: Installing a RetroSound car radio in my 56 Clipper

I installed a modern radio inside the glove box on my car. This way I can close the glove box and the radio is not visible. A remote attached to the steering wheel helps a lot, since reaching over to the passenger side of the car is kind of dangerous while driving.
The Becker Mexico is a sweet radio and nav system mybecker.com/deDE/CAR+INFOTAINMENT-Mexico+7948-Ueberblick.html but is DIN format, and would not fit in the dash. As far as speakers, I have 5.25 inch rounds in the kick panels and 6x9 oval speakers in the back window shelf. The packards have plenty of room for running wires and installing radios and equipment. -Tobs

I was planning on buying a Navigation system, they usually have an integrated speedometer in the display, so I guess that will be my speedo. More accurate than a cable driven speedo, except in tunnels!
