What about these brackets from Borth Auto? They are listed as a '50 Touring sedan. Its difficult to tell from the photo, but I am just not sure.

Hey what's the problem? You only need a $500 deposit within 24 hours of buying the Darrin.

Ozstatman, thanks for the link that was very helpful. Since the tank is out we are not concerned with cutting and welding. We fix the trunk body mounts since we are there. There is a little cancer in the spare tire wheel well that will be patched and painted with the rest of the trunk.

HH56, I will take lots of pictures and post them but don't hold your breath. My cousin is a busy guy and I hope we can get back at it soon. I need to finish the wiring and get the old girl back on the road. You have been a big help! Thanks,
B.

23 series '49 access to gas tank sending unit

I am interested to learn if anyone has cut the trunk pan to access the gas tank sending unit? There is a slight hump in the pan now where the unit appears to be located and we thought (My cousin is a welder) we would cut that area out and make a hatch out of it and some left over material. We have removed the tank as I could not get my arm up there to replace the wiring. Any idea or pictures would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Barry

In the 70's I worked for a VW, Porsche, Audi dealer in town.
We were really busy in the shop and had lots of new cars that came in one evening. As usual they would put the new cars in the service bays until the PDI (Post dealer inspection) is completed. None of the service guys were there. We left the customer cars inside at night usually parked over the lift but not raised.

Well the sales guys didn't know anything. They raised the customer cars on the lifts and parked the new cars underneath. By morning a couple of the lifts with bad air seals had settled on top of the new cars. Of course the one Porsche on the lift not only crushed the car below it, but also fell of the lift! Wish I had a camera back then.

I would open the shop 1st thing. My phone call: "Hey Doug! you never going to believe what happened!" Oops

I'm still installing mine, also have a '49 23 series. But my car is just a driver and I ran into lots of different problems. Some by me and some by previous owner(s).

Looked at a lot of different companies and I choose Harnesses Unlimited because they make the harness for your car. You need to tell them everything you have even the trunk light.
They answer the phone and are very helpful.

All the best
B.

Thanks for the info Tim
Still guessing I make my own retainer. Included are some pictures of the trunk interior. They have a flat spot molded into the interior truck liner.

I hope I did the wiring correctly just shout. Thanks to HH56

Thanks Howard
You have moved the marbles around upstairs and I think recall how it goes now.
I actually labeled the old bakelite connectors from the trunk when the truck wiring was removed. Those connectors supplied power to the "Reading" light. There is also a small switch on the passenger B pillar.

Did come through the catalogs again, no "Reinforcement" part listed. So, maybe I will make one from some flat stock.

Thanks again for the assist!
B

I was looking at other Craigslist ads, yes, its Studebaker and I found this ad. Was this built when Packard and Stude combined? Doesn't this have a Packard engine and trans?
Just wondering. I kind of like the body style.
