Re: Special tool J-5981?????? For window handles?

The picture in the manual does not show the business end of the tool, just where to use it.

I take it that the objective is to push both ends of the clip back a bit from the "axle" that it clips to, while simultaneously prying the handle away from the door?

Do these tools abound on some secret part of the internet, or do most folks make their own, or do most favor two screwdrivers?

Special tool J-5981?????? For window handles?

Looking in the service manual under body, special tool J-5921 is suggested for removing door handles. Two questions:

Same tool for window cranks?

Is this tool anything more than a steel 3/4 inch putty knife that has been bent a bit so as not to gouge the door panel?

Than for filling in the gaps!

More 56s listed here than 55s?

I was looking over the registry and noted that there seem to be quite a few more 56s than 55s listed. It is my understanding that considerably more 55s were produced than 56s.

Anyone care to comment on this seeming discrepancy?

And yes, this morning I am waiting for two grand daughters to arrive and fill the house with laughter, so I don't have enough to do......

I can't thank you enough for the explanation. To know why is more important than knowing what the original choice was--at least IMHO.....

Fascinating. I would have thought that a paper air filter would be far more effective. After all, with paper, all the air is filtered: with oil bath what? the majority of dirt just comes right in--or so "common sense" would suggest.....

Paper Air Cleaner?

A friend was looking at my car and expressed concern that it does not have a paper air cleaner. Why haven't I converted?

Has anyone actually done this? It makes some sense, or seems to. What is involved and what are the pros and cons?

With regard to the Mark 4....they are listed as a reproduction of a Mark 4 at the place that sells Sanjen compressors.

Under dash just seems simpler than one of the pseudo built-in setups that require redoing the heater to be part of the new system. Also somewhat appropriate to the period....

My car did not come with a/c and I do not see attempting to go period with it. I'd like current technology and reliability....

Thank you for the clarification.

At this point, I think I would like to just have this done, with all new parts. I;m leaning to a Mark 4 type floor unit in the car.

Does anyone have strong feelings on what this should cost?

Any preferred place to install it in the Chicago area.

Not concerned with penny pinching; want it done right at a reasonable price....

Thanks; some useful info. Would you be so kind as to tell me what the pictures are? Like I said, I'm not mechanical.

Also, the Packard bracket forms the bottom of the crankcase? Of the V8?
