Re: A few listings from Facebook Marketplace

Few recent FB postings:

1955 Clipper Super sedan. Very original car in solid black. Looks like it could be a good daily driver. Incorrect wheel covers, but I'm sure you could easily come up with a set. Upstate NY:

https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/769941201239872/?ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post

1935 120 Sedan (flat trunk model). Body looks very straight and rust free, but incorrect replacement interior. Needs cosmetics and is way overpriced at $39,999. I've seen fully restored 120 sedans of this vintage for less money. Located in Connecticut:

https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1654968908259599/?ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post

1928 526 Sedan. Original, unrestored barn find. Needs everything but appears complete. Located in Maine:

https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1226755814877314/?ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post

1940 110 Convertible Coupe. Fully restored and very pretty in dark maroon with a tan top and interior. Think $53K asking price is a bit too high for a 110. There is a 1940 120 on FB in MA (previously posted here) for $50K that is still for sale after several months. Car located in Wisconsin:

https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/637202844576604/?ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post

1951 200 Deluxe Sedan from Alabama. Appears car has been in storage for a long time, possibly decades. I can make out the remains of a state inspection sticker from 1966 on the windshield. Needs total resto, but body does look good. Has Ultramatic Drive:

https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/805744854579483/?ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post

1937 115C Coupe. Fully restored and looks sharp in silver with red wheels. Marysville, GA:

https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/771108014478793/?ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post

1956 Clipper Super Panama hardtop. Unrestored, but mostly complete. Has factory air. Seller says he has many extra parts including NOS quarter panels. Attractive turquoise and white paint scheme. Iowa:

https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1641216936303435/?ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post

1953 Mayfair hardtop. Rough unrestored, am seeing significant rust in the floor pan and interior is pretty much gone. May be better as a parts car but looks like it is all there. Kansas:

https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/734343144896414/?ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post

1956 400. Looks really nice, but incorrect interior. Seller (a dealer) claims 51K original miles. Houston, TX:

https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/141946075517406/?ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post

1955 Clipper Super Panama HT. Looks decent, but needs some cosmetics. TX:

https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/955749818899675/?ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post

1953 Clipper Deluxe Sedan. Exterior body looks great but has a really bad replacement interior. Ugly fabric. Chrome not good either. Ambitiously priced at $15K. Think about a third of that should do:

https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/607663331399950/?ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post

1955 400. Solid unrestored original, looks complete. Think it would be a good project. Ad says car runs, but apparently not road worthy:

https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/230984739536624/?ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post

1947 Clipper 6 sedan. Restored and looks really good for the asking price of just $8K. CA:

https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/789538255823286/?ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post

1940 110 Opera Coupe. Straight car, but paint looks badly faded. Ad states car has not run since 2017. CA:

https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1384624332387834/?ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post

1937 120 Convertible Sedan. Restored with light blue exterior and dark blue interior. Has dual side mounts. If this car were closer to me, I'd be interested. Question. Is this an original color? Located in CA:

https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/209758805073485/?ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post

1939 Super 8 (Model 1703) LWB sedan. Restored, dark blue with dual side mounts. Burbank, CA:

https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/6205657389453156/?ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post

Two 1951 Packard 200 sedans. Rough project cars; could probably make one good one from what's there. Nevada:

The floor console is definitely not Packard either. Looks like someone added an aftermarket air conditioner also.

Spotted a few nice ones today on CL that are recent postings:

Very nice 1958 Sedan. Really like this one, especially the color:

https://okaloosa.craigslist.org/cto/d/shalimar-rare-1958-packard-58l-sedan/7623700313.html

1940 110 Touring Sedan. Incorrect black vinyl interior, but body looks very straight and rust free. Not sure about the wire wheel rims. Ocala, FL:

https://ocala.craigslist.org/cto/d/crystal-river-1940-packard-6cyl-speed/7617526746.html

1955 Clipper Constellation. Looks well restored, but something may be up with the Torsion Level Ride as the rear end is way up in the air. Kansas City, MO.

https://kansascity.craigslist.org/cto/d/blue-springs-1955-packard-clipper/7623178199.html

1949 (23rd Series) Standard Eight Sedan. Barn find in solid condition but needs cosmetics. Colorado:

https://orangecounty.craigslist.org/cto/d/durango-1949-packard-barn-find-all/7624409323.html

Two 1934 Lebaron Speedster Phaeton project cars with reproduction bodies by Maurice Proux. Seller claims he has all parts needed to complete both cars, though finishing either one of them looks like it will be a monumental project. The metal work done on these cars looks truly amazing. Have no idea how anyone would be able to craft something like this. San Francisco Bay area:

Re: Auction report - Mecum Indy 2023

Final Packard of the auction was this 1953 Caribbean. It brought a high bid of $80,000 but was a no sale as reserve was not met. Ad states that the car's color is Matador Maroon which was one of the available Caribbean colors for 1953. But the color does not look quite right. It looks more like Candy Apple Red to me:

Auction report - Mecum Indy 2023
Home away from home
Home away from home

packardsix1939
This street-rodded 1939 120 Opera Coupe sold earlier today for $132K. The original straight eight was swapped out for a Chrysler Hemi V8. Car was a 2019 National Street Rod Association (NSRA) award winner:

https://www.mecum.com/lots/554350/1939-packard-120-custom/

In contrast, this 1942 120 Convertible Coupe hammered for only $58,300. Although the auction brochure states that it is a 160, it is actually a rebadged and retrimmed 120 and still has the original 282 CI Eight. This car was a no sale at the Sotheby's Hershey auction last October. I saw the car there and it was a nice older restoration.

https://www.mecum.com/lots/554109/1942-packard-160-convertible/

1954 Caribbean brought a high bid of $62K but did not meet its reserve. It was described as an older restoration. Not sure about the chrome palm tree someone placed on the front fender next to the Caribbean script lettering.

https://www.mecum.com/lots/1078797/1954-packard-caribbean-convertible/

This Matador Maroon 1953 Caribbean, a 2010 AACA Senior National First Prize winner, was also a no sale. It brought a top bid of $57K:

https://www.mecum.com/lots/1078798/1953-packard-caribbean-convertible/

1951 200 Deluxe Sedan sold for a very modest $6,600.
https://www.mecum.com/lots/1087336/1951-packard-sedan/

Beautifully restored 1953 Convertible looks like a real bargain as it sold for just $26,400.

https://www.mecum.com/lots/553587/1953-packard-mayfair-convertible/

1956 Caribbean was the top Packard seller for the auction at an astounding $154,000. Car was frame off restored in the 1990's and is a multiple award winner, including an AACA Grand National Senior in 2014.

https://www.mecum.com/lots/553734/1956-packard-caribbean-convertible/

1950 Station Sedan brought a high bid of only $42,000 and did not meet its reserve. This appears to be a very nice example of this model.

https://www.mecum.com/lots/553739/1950-packard-station-sedan/

1949 (22nd Series) Deluxe Eight Club Sedan with a concours level restoration was also a no sale at a high bid of $35,000. Probably the best example I have ever seen of this model. Car appeared in the 1985 romantic comedy "Mischief" starring actress Kelly Preston.

https://www.mecum.com/lots/561255/1949-packard-club-sedan/

1942 Clipper 180 Touring Sedan. Fully restored; CCCA national award winner. One of only two of this model known to exist (Body No. 1522). Sold for $55,000.

https://www.mecum.com/lots/554110/1942-packard-clipper/

There is one Packard remaining to cross the block (a 1953 Caribbean). I'll update this report once I have a result.

Agree, but I have seen worse. I have seen ads where there is no photo at all. Recently, I responded to an ad where the photo posted was a reproduction of an original Packard magazine ad. According to the seller, the car was "under restoration". I asked to see photos and all he sent me was a single very blurry black and white photo of the car apparently taken many years ago. I asked to see some recent photos of the restoration work, but never heard back.

Some recent CL Packard listings. More than I have seen in a while:

1955 Caribbean. Listed by a dealer in RI whom I have met a few times. Looks like a pretty decent car:

https://providence.craigslist.org/cto/d/greenville-1955-packard-caribbean/7621356091.html

1940 110 sedan. Has been street rodded. Typical Chevy V8. Central NJ:

https://cnj.craigslist.org/cto/d/helmetta-1940-packard-strret-rod/7619371948.html

1953 Clipper sedan. Older resto looks good. Nice original interior. Rochester, NY area:

https://rochester.craigslist.org/cto/d/east-bloomfield-packard-1953/7620826206.html

1954 Convertible. Mostly completed resto. Much work done, including paint and chrome, but interior looks incorrect. Indiana:

https://indianapolis.craigslist.org/cto/d/franklin-1954-packard-convertible/7622015244.html

1949 Standard 8 Sedan (23rd Series). For sale by dealer in Charlotte, NC. Ad says it is a Super 8, but I'm fairly sure it is the Standard 8 model.

https://charlotte.craigslist.org/ctd/d/sherman-1949-packard-super/7616958117.html

Very nice 1956 400 from Gulfport, MS. Beautiful interior and looks sharp in two tone green.

https://gulfport.craigslist.org/cto/d/moss-point-1956-packard/7618111785.html

1940 110 Opera coupe. Looks like a nice older resto, not show, but would be a really good driver. St. Augustine, FL area:

https://staugustine.craigslist.org/cto/d/bostwick-1940-packard-110-club-coupe/7617074577.html

1955 400. Looks sharp in Black and Ivory. Houston, TX:

https://houston.craigslist.org/cto/d/houston-1955-packard-400-coupe-all/7617712371.html

1955 400. Needs work but looks like a worthy project. Phoenix, AZ.

https://phoenix.craigslist.org/cph/cto/d/lakeside-door-packard-400/7622313946.html

1937 115C Touring Sedan. Has been resto-modded. Looks original from outside, but engine replaced with Chevy V8. Rest of car looks original, down to the original steel rims and wide whites. Portland, OR area:

https://portland.craigslist.org/clk/cto/d/kalama-1937-packard-v8-auto/7622061246.html

1955 Patrician. Original car, looks very solid but needs cosmetic restoration. Oregon

https://bend.craigslist.org/ctd/d/redmond-1955-packard-patrician/7616418541.html

1940 110 Sedan. Needs total resto. Sacramento, CA:

https://sacramento.craigslist.org/cto/d/elverta-1940-packard/7620483552.html

1957 Clipper Town Sedan. Very nice original, needs some minor work. SF Bay area:

https://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/cto/d/boulder-creek-1957-packard-clipper/7619911134.html

1954 Convertible. Fully restored, beautiful in Ivory and red interior.

https://sacramento.craigslist.org/cto/d/antelope-1954-packard/7618779528.html

1958 Hardtop. Solid car that needs some cosmetics. Rare last year Packard. Bakersfield, CA:

https://bakersfield.craigslist.org/cto/d/bakersfield-1958-packard-door-hardtop/7619067028.html

1953 Caribbean. Rough, unrestored car, but sheet metal looks straight and solid as you would expect on a West Coast car (Southern CA). Interior is completely gutted. Appears that the original color was Gulf Green Metallic.
Seller thoughtfully included a picture of a fully restored '53 Caribbean to inspire potential buyers. But we all know how much it costs to get there! Who wants to take this one on?

I bought some stuff from Dave many years ago and did not have any issues with him. This was before the Internet. I had responded in writing to an ad he had placed in Hemmings Motor News. Remember those olden days of SASE's? Dave was able to provide some very scarce parts for the 1951 Packard 250 convertible I was in the middle of restoring at the time. Never did get that car finished. It was in a restoration shop that later went out of business, and I ended up in a forced sale situation as a result. Guy I sold it to is still working on it after about 20 years.

Few new ones I spotted today:

1937 120 Dietrich Convertible Sedan. This appears to be the car sold last year at the C. Lewis Ablelove auction in Utica, NY which I attended. Car is very solid but needs a huge amount of work to complete. Looks like the auction buyer either gave up or he is trying to flip for a profit:

https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/770334501376891/?ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post

1939 Super 8 Touring Sedan. Looks very sharp in black with dual side mounts, but has been sitting for a long time and tires are flat. Nice original interior and the dash plastic looks relatively intact compared to some others of this model I have seen. Data plate says it was originally sold in Utah. Green Bay, WI. Go Packers!

https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/785277602813678/?ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post

1938-1939 120 front clip. Looks pretty solid. Can anyone use this? Ohio:

https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/752553629601579/?ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post

1949 (22nd series) Super 8 Sedan. LWB model. Looks pretty hopeless but might yield some parts. Ohio:

https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/561201605937789/?ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post

1954 Clipper Deluxe Sedan. Nice, clean original car needs some interior work. Looks sharp in two tone green. Like it. TX:

packardsix1939
Some I found today that are recent postings on CL:

1937 115C Touring Sedan. Rough condition and from the photos, it does not look like it would be worth restoring. Probably just a parts car, but much of the exterior sheet metal is definitely reusable. Connecticut.

https://newhaven.craigslist.org/cto/d/southbury-1937-packard/7616150734.html

Very nice 1952 300. Ad states 15K original miles. Harrisburg, PA

https://harrisburg.craigslist.org/cto/d/miller-place-1952-packard-300/7615078667.html

1949 (22nd Series) Custom 8 sedan. Needs work but looks like it might not be too bad of a project. Jackson, MI

https://jxn.craigslist.org/cto/d/jackson-1949-packard-23rd-series-door/7614859192.html

1940 110 Touring Sedan. Nearly completed resto, requires some reassembly. Los Angeles, CA:

https://losangeles.craigslist.org/wst/cto/d/long-beach-1940-packard/7616104175.html
