What I was needing it for was to send it to ABS Brake in CA as he said he could better fit a disc kit up to it and this way I would not risk losing my much needed ones in shipment plus not having to disassemble the front end, not that I don't trust the mail

Kev,
You didn't notice if the gentleman that you got your parts from might possibly have a front spindle for a 56 or have a number for me to call him and check?
Thanks
Bill

ABS brakes have been around since 1979.

John,
I will have to agree with Randy, wish the Packard was so simple. Check in car magazines, Street Rodder, ect. and you will find plenty of vendors for what you need. You can go online to abspowerbrake.com for ideas.

John,
Glad you quit sitting back and joined in.
Upgrading the power booster is not the BIG issue here as I have already seen some booster upgrades, it is an easily adaptable and affordable front disc brake upgrade for Packard so those of who drive theirs can do so much safer. As for proportioning valves, these are available for installing between master cylinder and brakes, there is one that has a delay to let rear brakes apply first in sequence with fronts and then there are those that can be manually adjusted for balance. I started this thread in hopes someone had some answers or solutions on disc upgrade because the original system almost cost me the car right after we got it last October. We plan on enjoying it and DRIVING it to shows as we do in our Street Rodded 1937 Studebaker, this is what gets the forgotten cars out there for young and old to see.

If anyone has a donor set as you mentioned and are interested in possibly having an upgrade kit created for Packard I for one would be willing to help them with shipping cost to Turner Brake if needed.

I talked to ECI about the BPM and was told it does not work on large volume systems, small volume system such as Ford Explorer calipers and only activates on 1/2 of the system, front or rear. You experience about 10% more pedal travel. Not what I have been searching for. Kevin, have you corresponded anymore with Jim Turner at Turner Brake about upgrade? If you do and he takes this on I can definitely be counted in as a customer.

Attached below just might be a solution to replacing the BTV with just a dual master cylinder with this behind it. You can check it out at ecihotrodbrakes.com, click on catalog and brake multiplier.

ECI Brake Pressure Multiplier

Recipient of the 2004 NSRA Best New Product, and Best New Safety products Awards

The ECI brake pressure multiplier (BPM) utilizes a unique step piston configuration to increase brake system pressures 50-60% where it's needed most - at higher pedal forces. The BPM uses the excess fluid capacity available in the master cylinder bore to provide increased line pressure for the low volume requirements of a small piston caliper brake system, such as Ford Explorer, Corvette and GM rear disc brake calipers, and is ideal for use with rear drum brake systems,

Due to it's step piston multiplication system, the BPM continues to provide 150% to 160% of inlet pressure as pedal effort increases, unlike a vacuum booster's assist, which remains constant after maximum boost is reached with line pressure only increasing linearly with increased pedal force (see figure).

Low pressure operation and system filling remain unchanged, with pressure multiplication occurring only at the higher pressure levels required for optimum system performance. Each BPM is tailored to your exact system requirements during assembly to provide the maximum increase in pressure and brake performance. A light increase in pedal travel is required for operation.

The BPM is installed in the brake line and can be used with or without a vacuum booster. Chassis mounting is required.

Packard v8,
If you are measuring center to center of bolt, this why probably you got the 1/4" measure, when you measure, start on outside edge of first bolt and go to center of bolt , which should be second one going clockwise, and this should give either 4 1/2 or 5 as Packard shows both available. My Executive shows 4 1/2.

Bill,

The disc kit for your car will cost about 1295.00 and a new hydraboost unit is about 495.00 to 695.00.

I received this back from Brake Tech Solutions, seems as they have a kit for Packard. As for bolt pattern, the Packard Cross Reference has a listing for a 5x5" and a 5x4.5": pattern, also a listing for wheel bearings used.
