Here's the gasket profile out of TB55T-34 re adding reinforcement to lower lip to prevent windshield falling down. Never tried generic so can't help on your question. Don't think the glass will reach the lip for the butyl. Watching a glass repair on my modern car, that stuff is so tenacious would really be concerned about removing glass without breaking & then scraping it clean & smooth enough to get a good seal with weatherstrip without damaging something..

OK, Gerd. No paintings. That is one way it could go. If they used a different kind of solenoid also another way it could be wired.

If you are talking about the 4 terminal R9 solenoid, it is normal if you only had one wire connected. There needs to be another wire connected to stop the "buzzing". If you have the 2 terminal R11 solenoid, there is a problem.

On the R9, you probably were connected to 4 to bring the plunger out. Once out, it opens a contact inside which breaks the circuit. That is a strong but intermittent duty pull in coil & can't take long time voltage. Once contact is broken, spring pulls plunger back in so the cycle repeats.

To stop the buzzing you also need to have a wire connected to 3 which is a continuous duty hold in coil. Once the pull in coil contact breaks, the hold in coil maintains the plunger in the out position.

If you had both 3 & 4 connected, there is a problem with the hold in coil.

Gerd, I don't have the pretty software to draw with that Kev does but here is a crude one the way I think it goes together.

EDIT:Quote:
object can't be a proprietary development
The assembly was undoubtedly made this way by the factory. It was quick and inexpensive and worked well for the purpose.

Quick and inexpensive way to do it and they probably had lots of room for the assy. You're right, today we'd use two relays with a set of N.O. and N.C. contacts each. N.O. set would energize the respective solenoid and N.C set would break the control to other relay--an integrated circuit would do both. Doing it then would probably cost 3-4 times what that did.

It is two electrical solenoids. The tube connecting them at the center indicates they are mechanically interlocked so both cannot be on at same time. If it is part of your hydraulic window setup, it would pobably be used as the control for the reversing pump

I think the gear puller type should be avoided unless the jaws are deep enough to grab the center without pulling against the outer part. Possibly, if there is enough room to place maybe a 1/4" piece of flat stock behind the damper that would allow the puller jaws to catch onto it instead of outer rim might work. As Randy pointed out, pulling against just the outer ring is not a good idea.

Making your own out of maybe 1/2 flat stock would not be too hard from the looks of it.

I saw that logo Gerd. Didn't pay much attention because if you look at other Packard show booths, they're all petty much the same format. Clippers & logo on one side, Packards & logo on other and then the transmission, engine, whatever cut away displays and other stuff in the middle.

Hank is probably right about the custom chassis. For some reason they did use the Clipper chassis on special things--maybe had more of them, cheaper, smaller who knows. Yes, Hank the white does set it off on purpose. It was special built and highlighted to show the suspension components and how they worked & integrated into the car. Believe they were specially adjusted or built so the leveler performed properly without the weight of the body etc for demo. Revolutionary at the time--but there were also lots of people that wouldn't touch & wanted no part of any new fangled ideas.

Probably is a Clipper chassis but might have had Packard identifiable items-air cleaner, hubcaps maybe. The Predictor was also built on a Clipper chassis, surprisingly--maybe because smaller was easier to ship..

I would think only one exhaust was because they didn't want a pipe to be crossing around or in front of compensator mechanism to obstruct the view.
